Damp - anyone know anything about Schrijver System? Carebrick Uk damp course company?

What problems are you having?

Can't say what is appropriate without knowing what kind of house you have and why you think you want this.

I wouldn't be using it. Houses stand for centuries without damp. They don't need interventions, if it's not a leak of some sort, it's usually some sort of modern intervention that causes the problem in the first place.

Basically, the inside of our walls seem like the salts are coming through. have tried the council and they did some years ago drill loads of small holes around.... then we have started painting with "damp proofing" paints, but the salts seem to come through. We called https://www.carebrick.co.uk/ and quoted 2k to install their system as apparently its all to do with central heating and maybe double glazing etc and modern living in an older house?

Just have no idea whether to trust https://www.carebrick.co.uk/ as I can't find any independent reviews on Truspilot of Google etc

How old is your house?

It's not a really old house. Could be high external ground levels, blocked cavity if it has cavity walls, condensation etc. Try and find the cause of any dampness first.

Please post photos of the inside and outside of your affected walls. There is always a reason.

"All to do with central heating and double glazing" is not an explanation. Central heating does nothing bad to a house. It keeps it warm and warmth is a good thing as more moisture can be held in the air, rather than the walls. Double glazing, with a lack of trickle vents can cause condensation, but that doesn't explain salts leaching through at all. The solution to that is to increase ventilation and keep that central heating on! If they have not provided any kind of adequate explanation then they can't possibly say what their product does that solves the problem.

Hi, no real issues apart from a small amount of condensation really on windows.

Looks like a variation on the Schrijver Systeem - We are about to save you £2K and preserve the value of your home...

The Schrijver Systeem and its variants are a waste of money, do not work, and there is no independent scientific research to suggest that it will get rid of damp. It is claimed that the system uses some specially crafted widgets that let moisture out. These are inserted in to a wall using (waterproof) cement and it is claimed that they can be installed "in special buildings such as oast houses, churches, castles, lighthouses etc." - Most of these buildings will be Grade II or even Grade I, and you can expect a criminal prosecution if you try sticking these in a wall.

Do a search on the "Holland system" and/or "Schrijver system". In the meantime, a couple of links.

Post some images of your damp walls (wide angle shots are best), and you should get some suggestions as to the real reason for the damp and how to fix it.

I've have a late 1920s property that had some damp problems - For the most part, the cure was cheap and easy. No need to waste money on sticking widgets in the walls or slapping fancy, expensive coatings on.

Papered or painted walls ?

The first & second pic looks like it is the remains of an internal wall (open plan remodeling perhaps ?). Staining at that sort of height with nothing above or below suggests penetrating damp. A leaking downpipe perhaps ?
