GINTOT I always get smoked gammon too, it seems to have so much more flavour to it. I do it on the hob. I bring to the boil then drain and start again in fresh water. But, saying that, I like it salty! x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Thanks TA I thought I was doing something wrong. I usually do it in the slow cooker with very little liquid so that maybe concentrates the saltiness.

Afternoon all,
Likewise the grey November weather most of you have. We set out this morning to go to a Garden Centre, a few miles away, well it's more like a visitor centre really. We wanted a look for pressies and we really like their food hall so we set off fairly early.Got nearly there and saw the queue at the roundabout to turn down the road and turned back home, it must be nearly a mile off the bypass so I was a bit fed up then.
In the end we went to our local retail centre, managed to get a parking spot & headed for our favourite Italian cafe but no tables, same at M/s , Costa and another. We decided to go to the toy shop and picked up a few bits, it's DGs birthday next week but nothing for his main present. We'll have to study the argoos catalogue :rotfl:Tried Marks cafe again, we had to wait in a line again but it was a lot shorter ( not much quicker though, apparently a lot of the businesses were affected by a power cut before we got there hence the backlog ) So not the best days Xmas / birthday shopping we've had.
Gers glad to hear you're being discharged and hopefully you can have a good nights sleep.
Snoozer, what a shame - colds are such a blooming nuisance.
Steak for tea tonight so not much trouble, think I may read my book for a bit.Take care all xx:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)0 -
Hi everyone
Gers - hope you get home tomorrow
Just been having a lazy afternoon. I'm going to have an early and very lazy tea soon of leftover chicken casserole and mash from yesterday. For some reason I've been really hungry all afternoon.
Then DD is bringing little grand daughter up to stay the night as I'm not working tomorrow.
I had a lovely day yesterday with both baby and my great nephew who is two - he talked non-stop for about 6 hours! He is lovely with a great imagination. It started to rain as we walked up the hill to my house - he found a big stick and kept stopping to dig in the leaves - he kept saying 'this is the best fun' as we got wetter and wetter! No need for expensive toys!0 -
I’m home...great effort from friends but I made it!
Thanks for all the good wishes xx0 -
Gintot I always buy smoked gammon, it has much more taste then the unsmoked. I soak it in water overnight before I cook it. pour the water away. Put sliced carrot, onion, celery, 6 black peppercorns, bouquet garni and gammon in the PKP, cover the gammon with fresh water and cook. I use the stock for making soup0

Entered the gas meter into the app on my phone and it said "are you sure? That seems lower than expected". Great success and warmed me a little to make up for the reduced warmth coming from the radiators!0

Evening all. Woke up very late today after last night but no hangover..huzzah..even though we left the pub very very late...Have done nothing but some knitting today, lit a fire, done the dishes and am now wathing catch up tv shows [love a bit of George Clarke].
TA, totally agree about the smoked one. I also found that the piece is more in one piece if that makes sense, with the unsmoked it always seemed to be in bits tha didn slice well, or maybe that's ust me being lucky with lidls gammon. Gers...Hooray! You're home!!Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
Hi Gers glad you are home. Wishing you a restful night's sleep.
Csarina thanks for the tip.
