O/S Daily Sunday 17 November 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Dull, dreich and damp start to the day here, looks set in for the day.

DH in the bathroom, DS1 still in his pit, I'm enjoying first cuppa whilst on here, and DS2 settled and ok.

Dinner last night was breaded chicken portion, scotch egg, cheese, pork pie (menfolk), hot new potatoes, salad (me only).

Today we'll be having roast lamb, I'll be getting that in the oven shortly, needs a long slow roast, will do roasties, mash, cauli/broc cheese, swede, carrots, peas, yorkshires and gravy.

Yesterday we visited both sets of parents, so a chilled day today although there are a couple of jobs to do, DH and DS1 are going to do that whilst I cook and prep the lunch and pack ups ready for tomorrow.

Keep safe and well x

  • Good morning, and thanks NMLC for starting.

It's damp and dreary here, typical November weather.

I returned last night from Christmas markets trip with a friend, It went very well and it was real value for money. Ch*tsworth House was beautifully decorated, and there was a large market in the grounds. it was a lovely place, I took some photos, but they don't really do it justice.
Yesterday we were in Manchester - again there was a large Christmas market, and we had a nice day before heading home.

Sorry to read that you're not doing so well Jackie, frustrating isn't it.
Happy to see that you are progressing Gers, keep it up.

Thoughts to others who are ill or struggling with life.

    Take care folks

    Good morning.

Thanks for starting off the thread nmlc.

Aren’t hospitals the noisiest of places? My room is right by the nurse’s station so it’s bedlam most of the time. Even with the door closed it’s really bad. Anyway, I should be going home later this afternoon.

I hope that everyone has a good day. Happy Sunday to all.

    Morning :hello:

Gers I'm glad you're coming home today, wishing you a good night's sleep in your own bed! x

I was feeling a bit frazzled and in need of a bit of pampering so I took my time getting ready yesterday mornng with moisturisers, hair oil and nail and foot files. I feel much better and my hair no longer looks like I fried the ends with a blowtorch :D

I'm always reminding mr tru to take treats on dog walks but he never does. There's an industrial unit next to our little field, in front of that there's brambles, around ten feet thick. Mr tru rang and said Scamp dived in there and wouldn't come out, then he went in deeper. Turns out there's a fence around the field, I had no idea it was there, it's been overgrown for years. Scamp had found a little gap and was stuck between the fence and the building. I said to use the treats, he always comes for those. He said he had no treats and he won't come anyway, he's stuck. So I had to walk down there with a pocket full of bribes, lol. It was dark and I had to wait a couple of minutes for my eyes to adjust – why couldn't they be on the side with lights? – then I walked up and down til I spotted him. I couldn't actually see him, I could just see his light up collar moving around :D He wasn't stuck at all, he was happily ambling about. Mr tru was trying to get to him (no chance, without a chainsaw!), was really worried, sounded a bit panicky and said he'd never find the gap he went through. I told him Scamp wouldn't come to him while he was like that and he needs to shush! I started walking away away, yelling “cheesy bites!” in a loud cheery voice and that light came running :D I was pleased he was OK and annoyed that my coffee I was enjoying in peace had gone cold. I gave mr tru The Look and told him to TAKE TREATS NEXT TIME!!!

I'm not going to bother looking at the weather forecast, I'll just look out of the window from now on :D It's cold but not raining so we'll have a decent walk this morning. My old washing machine has been in the hall for days, mr tru's mate is coming to help shift it today. We'll be able to get to the stairs easily again, lol. I'll have room to rearrange things, so I'll be able to tidy up properly. The washing is almost done, I'll hang that up then have a shower, then decide how much housework I'm willing to do :D

  • Damp and miserable here today.

I cleared a lot of fallen leaves yesterday and the lawn was looking a bit better until a squirrel decided to dig a nice big hole a few minutes ago.

No massive plans today, dinner will be roast chicken etc.

Tru, glad you got him out of the hedge and Gers, getting home will be much more restful.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC for the start off. Woke up to rain again this morning but no real surprises there! The forecast is for a few dry days, humph we will see!

Another fabulous performance of Mamma Mia last night. The theatre was packed to capacity. DD had booked the dress circle and we had a much better view than last time when we were in the stalls. I am beginning to think I could now qualify as a Donna stand-in (oh wait a minute I'd need to be able to sing for that!!) Next time we go to the Alhambra it will be to watch the 2 DGDs in Snow White. Not long now before rehearsals start.

Not much on the agenda for today, I think a lazy afternoon is in order after a busy few days. This morning I am putting my Mrs Heinz head on as I want to do a re-stock of soups for the freezer. I have a gammon joint on the go as I speak so the stock will be used for Lentil & Bacon soup. Then Leek & Potato, using half price leeks and half price potatoes I got in Aldi. Bargainous soup! If I have enough soup bags left after that I may also make more Celery.

I hope you are released as planned today GERS and back in your own bed tonight. Nothing like your own bed is there for a good night's sleep,

Your trip sounded enjoyable SCARLETT. I have only been to Chatsworth House once and that was on a school trip in the dim and distant past!!

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) galore for the poorlies, sad and recuperating. Take care all xx

    Morning all

Dry and bright here for the moment and no rain due later, we shall see !

I have woken with a cold its not too bad but is typical that as my foot is starting to get better something else comes along ! never mind it will soon pass.

Ive got a nice bit of brisket today which is in the sc with onions and carrots will do the spuds and veg and yorkshires later when OH gets back so that he can help with the prep, will do enough for tomorrow too for an easy dinner after work.

I think dd wants to nip to home sense today so will go with her and look for a few more stocking fillers then have a rest this afternoon while dinner is cooking.

Gers I do hope you get home this afternoon xx

Tru im glad scamp came back, that must have been scary !

Right better get on have good days all xx
  • Morning all. Dull and damp here. Tumble dryer on with DD's washing. It is difficult for her to dry clothes in a small flat so I often dry washing for them in the winter. Nothing planned yet fot today except a roast this evening

Gers glad you are leaving hospital today. Did ypu say you wete staying with a friend with a bungalow for a bit? SR your trip to the Christmas markets sounds lovely. TA mmm soup. I like your lentil and bacon. Tru Scampi is sweet and mischievious lol.

Well it's dry and now and again there's something yellow appearing in the sky ( if you screw your eyes up tight :D ) but I don't think it's meant to last, as rain is forecast for later on :(. I would like to get outside to rake up some fallen leaves, but I can't see that happening this week as we have another busy week ahead. How we managed going to work as well is beyond me  Have a peaceful, relaxing time in retirement, my foot !

Anyway I made 3 xmas cakes yesterday ( with the muscle of Mr Fix It, which was nearly as useless as mine :p) but we managed to stir them between us. If I can't do them the old fashioned way by hand and in my Nan's mixing bowl, then I shall give up making them.
It's Sunday lunch day with Dad and it's roast chicken, roasties, honey roast carrots, parsnips broccoli and gravy. The chicken is ready to go in the oven and I only have to prep the veg.
Gers hope you have a lovely sleep in your own bed.
Tru will Mr Tru take your advice now ? Glad you got Scampi back.
Scarlett glad you enjoyed the markets. I only went once with DD to Bath....... never again it was heaving everywhere and no where to sit and just enjoy the look of it :(
Right I must go and prep the veggies. Til tomorrow all

    Take care
    nan xx
Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently
  • TA just poppong back to ask about cooking gammon. How long do you soak it? We like smoked gammon but even with soaking it's a bit salty.

I'm really sad that I've caught Steve's cold because I won't be able to see Laura and the baby, instead I'm meeting Brian halfway to exchange Ziggy. Hopefully I'll be ok by Tuesday when sister-in-law is coming down to meet Esben.

Steve is still suffering (and letting me know about it) so I hope he is better by Tuesday as well.
