Diesel cars in Bristol

New type approvals from September 2014, manufacturers had until September 2015 to sell previously type-approved Euro5 models. Not quite true, my car was built 06/15 and is euro 5. The manufacturer didn’t bring in euro 6 until 09/15.
Anyway, the big difference between Euro5 and Euro6 is NOx. For diesels, Euro5 was 0.18g/km, Euro6 reduced that to 0.08g/km - the same level as petrols had met in 2005 with Euro4.
It's NOx emissions which are doing the real harm, not least because they shot upwards as a result of the diesel combustion changes to combat particulates.0 -
Theres only a few BHP in it (which i think coming from a Fiesta you'll be hard pushed to notice), however those last few BHP are that important and saving money on the cost of it isnt relevant then theres the 440i weighing in at 326BHP rather than 309BHP.
The main advantage being you dont have a rumbly old diesel engine up front.
The 0-60 on both of the cars are very similar, so I guess it just comes down to how the cars feel to drive. I've read some people really enjoyed the 440i over the 435d and found it more fun. I will just have to test drive the 440i and see if it sways me. I'm a sucker for torque however........ :rotfl:0 -
Yeh, the 440i only has 450nm of torque. Rice pudding skin is obviously safe...
Seriously, you are not going to notice the lack of that on the road, unless you're firmly into antisocial territory.0 -

Our M140i has that engine and its a lovely thing to drive. You can overtake on the torque without it having to even drop down a gear at times.
Our A45 was an angry thing by comparison that wanted to be revved and would drop maybe 4 gears if you pulled out to pass something. Was manic but ultimately tiresome as a daily driver.
The 440i is the better engine over the 435d. Whiles the 435d is refined it is still a diesel oil burner and you cant ever really get away from that. Likewise, diesels are in their way out so i'm not sure i would be buying in to one unless i really really had to.0 -

The reality is air pollution kills.
Admittedly diesel cars is just one part of it but still a part of it.
