Have we been unreasonable? - offering on house

As a result of this we’ve decided to give a deadline for our offer of midday tomorrow. Have we been unreasonable here?
It's generally a bad idea to ask if a deadline/ultimatum is unreasonable once you've given it, as any climbdown weakens your position. In fact, it's unwise to issue any deadlines or ultimatums at all unless you're prepared to follow through on whatever it is you are threatening.
Anyway, glad the EA decided you were, your deadline wasn't communicated and it all turned out as you hoped - it just goes to show that as with most threads entitled "Am I being unreasonable....?", the answer is always "yes".0 -
I'm glad for you that the ultimatum wasn't conveyed to the vendor, and I'm glad that it's all going through OK.
If I'd been that vendor I'd have listened to your demand and let you withdraw your under-the-asking-price offer as you threatened, then carried on with the viewings. I certainly wouldn't have allowed myself to be bullied like that, not least because I'd consider it a foretaste of what was likely to come in future negotiations.0 -
