ParkingEye/Debt Recovery Plus - Help

Good evening all.

About 2 months ago I started a job in a wee shop in a retail park, and I wasn't able to get my car's registration onto the ParkingEye system for the first two shifts I did at that job.

They sent me a fine for exceeding a 3 hour parking limit, which I appealed, as I was working there. In response to this they insisted they were still justified in giving me the fine, lowering it as a "goodwill gesture".

I ignored these on my manager's advice.

Yesterday I received a letter from Debt Recovery Plus on behalf of ParkingEye, telling me I need to pay a total of £320 by the 18th (that is four days from now!), or they will advise their client to pursue legal action, featuring a nice case study about someone losing to the parking company and having to pay £20,000+ in fees.

My manager tells me I should ignore this still, possibly phone them and contest the fact I literally work in the retail park. They haven't sent me any more tickets for any of the shifts I've spent there since, so they clearly are recognising that I am justified in spending time there.

Is my manager right? Should I ignore this? Or should I just pay them the £320? I just want them to go away as it's stressful to get these harassing letters when I am a struggling student!

Thank you in advance! :D:D:D

Debt collectors letters can be ignored - as detailed in post #4 of the NEWBIES thread.

Have you based your forum username on your real name?

If so, you would be well advised to get your forum username changed to something completely anonymous.

To do that, you might like to read this short extract from The MSE Forum Guide - Frequently Asked Questions & Rules:
    Q. How can I change my username?

    A.
In most circumstances, this is not permitted.

The only reason we will change your username is if it puts your privacy at risk. This usually means you've inadvertently registered using your name, email address or something that gives away your identity within your username.

If you fall into this category, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com and request that it is changed, giving three alternative usernames in order of preference.

How many tickets and how much for each ???

When P/Eye are using DRP, it means they are unlikely to sue you, for whatever reason, which is lucky because usually they do in England and Wales.

But from your description of a 'wee shop' and that you mentioned what sounds like the Carly Mackie case (Scottish badly defended case) I am guessing this is in Scotland?

Ask your manager to dig out the User Manual that ParkingEye gave the shops, find the cancellation email and get him/her to email to cancel it. OR send the cancellation email yourself seeing as you work there!

All shops can cancel all P/Eye PCNs so why hasn't the Manager sent the email?
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
