extra leg room and extra space, all the extra leg room seats are fully booked, i would imagine because of the same problem as mine, group of 6 people flying, they all have to book the same seats
the extra space seats are in the emergency exit seats
scam definition
an illegal plan for making money, especially one that involves tricking people:
it may not be illegal, but it certainty is immoral, and it certainty does trick people as it is not told before booking flights, nor would you expect that, i have flown all across this world and have never encountered this
you also have to pay for the seats before it even allows you to select the seat, which is very backwards
thats like Tesco asking you to pay for your shopping before you entered the shop, to find the products you need are sold out, therefore keeping your money in a 5-7 day refund process
There are not that many extra leg room seats on each charter plane, i know TUI on their 737,s use the right hand side of the plane and it is the first 5 rows,ie 15 seats in total,we always try and book these and we are not tall people but enjoy the extra space.
If you are late booking your seat you may not get one of these, thats the luck of the draw.
I know when we went to Grand Canaria two weeks ago we could have sat apart if we wanted to,we are two adults, maybe TUI do not like splitting adults and children up ( i know young children have to sit next to an adult ) but maybe on a large booking they try and sit you all together to stop people complaining that they were split up.0 -

its a ridiculous rule or computer system that doesnt allow
i went into the tui shop yesterday with a last ditch attempt before i went to the media
they said we are a family business and dont want to split family's up
i said basically tall people with a family can not fly tui ? and she said yes
says it all0 -
Good luck - it's clearly a ridiculous rule. Fly Ryanair next time - they're the experts at spiltting people up, I'm sure they'd let you sit apart
On my last BA booking, I could only reserve seats for the entire group, rather than just for 1 or 2 of us - but it all ended well. Mrs Cat and I at the front of the plane and the kittens at the back of the plane, next to the bogs.

Would that TUI were equally reasonable. OP wants emergency exit row so he can fit in his seat, but can't have them because kids have to have the same type of seats according to TUI's silly policy, which is not allowed as no kids allowed in emergency exit row, so he can't have them either, what a ridiculous catch 22 :rotfl:
The kids could be in the row in front or behind and they are still "together" according to CAA guidelines. Hopefully the media will take this up and TUI will adjust their silly policy - it's not doing them or their customers any good.0 -
Write a letter of complaint. You clearly have additional needs, it's basically disability discrimination - being really tall might not be what most people class a "disability" but it clearly is when it comes to trying to fit in an airline seat!
Being tall is a disability now? My husband will be pleased to here that!0 -
Result!

Not quite the story though.
TUI offer Extra Legroom Seats which are not necessarily located at exit doors and can be occupied by anyone willing to pay the supplement. The OP and his family, including the children, could pay for and be accommodated in those Extra Legroom seats
The OP's displeasure is that TUI require the whole party to pay for seating upgrades, whether Premium (long haul), Extra Space, Extra Legroom or Standard. They do not allow to mix and match.0 -

And the emergency exit rows could end up being allocated to those who don't particularly want them but are travelling in a group with no kids! It's totally ludicrous. This is a need, it's not a want, someone 6 foot 8 simply can't fit into a normal seat.
Why is people think this sort of thing is OK on flights, but on buses, trams etc people seem to accept that seats for people who need them are set aside for them?0 -

And as a result, these extra legroom seats could end up all being taken by those who don't need them, but are forced to purchase them because they're travelling in a group with someone who does need them! So there might be none left for people who do need them.

The problem is that Tall,Over weight,Disabled people etc all need seats with extra space/legroom and there are only so many on each aircraft.
The obvious answer is to make the space between all seats greater but the only way to do this is to take a couple of rows out of the plane, this of course will push the price up for everybody as the airline would like the same revenue from now less people.
One other way to do it at no cost would be to take the toilets out on short haul flights,if people cannot fly for a few hours without using the toilet they should not fly :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0
