Nokia N95 software update released today

My N95 is now responsive as hell, internet is so much faster at loading

Demand paging in the new firmware makes the phone a dream

What is the new version number ?

Mine is 12.0.013, is it the next version after that one ?

I have not had my N95 long, how do I go about updating the firmware ?

I went through the Nokia site, and installed the update software, but all it tells me is that my installed version 12.0.013 is the current version (had that version since I got the phone a month ago).

What is the new version released today, and how do I find it ?

If you have branded firmware then the current version you have is the latest version available. The newest version is the stock unbranded version.

You'll either have to wait for your service provider to approve a branded version or to unbrand it first.

Ah, that explains that then. Thanks for the info.

Could I ask, is unlocking my N95 the same as unbranding it ? I intend to get 3 to give me an unlock code in a few days time, will that simply unlock it for all networks, or will that unbrand it aswell ?

No, unlocking and unbranding is different.

Unbranding can be done at home using software called NSS (Nemesis Service Suite).

Loads of info and guides about it over on the forums at www.allaboutsymbian.com

debranding/unbranding wont touch the locks on the phone, just like unlocking wont change the branding on the phone

to unlock the N95 (which is a bb5 nokia), you will have to get the code from the network or find a shop with a bb5 unlock box

Thanks for all the help guys. I have now updated my phone to the new v20 software, adn wil be getting it unlocked in a week or so.

When using Nokia updated make sure your battery is fully charged first.

If it runs out during the update your phone then has to go to Nokia for about 3 weeks as mine has done.

A quick follow up question regarding unbranding/unlocking of my N95.

The unbranding of my N95 went flawlessly thanks to the help on here, but now that I have done that, and changed the product code, will the unlock code I get from 3 still work ?
