Socialism in Scandanavian countries entails all but the very lowest earners paying substantial amounts of income tax.
Oil generates a sizable amount of GDP. Correspondingly a high proportion of tax revenue for the respective treasuries. With far smaller populations to support.
Climate change is going to cause an earthquake through the established status quo. Sustainability is another matter.0 -

An extreme left wing government will bankrupt this country, as happened in Venezuela and UK in the 1970s (had to be bailed out by IMF). My former English teacher went abroad in 1970s because the strikes got ridiculous and she had enough of the nonsense. I will do the same without hesitation because they will tax hard working people until the pips squeak (to give to those who have excuse to not work) and I do not want to live in a country held hostage by the unions.
I am also extremely concerned that exchange control will be imposed, so have plans in place to move savings abroad if I sense any possibility that labour may win the election.
Evidently you are too young to remember the 1970s and the stories that you have been told are essentially mythical.
I clearly remember the events in question (I was at university at the time) and understood what was happening, and I am actively campaigning for a Labour government. I suggest that you move on from the 'Sun' to something like the Financial Times.0 -
I can't see how Corbyn could implement even half of his so called Venezuela policies, even if he got in with a majority (which is pretty unlikely). Surely the £ would collapse, and the drop in markets would stop any idiocies soon enough. As soon as people are hit in their pockets the honeymoon would be over pronto.
Damage would be done by then. Corbyn and Co are wedded to their ideas of decades ago. Nothing is going to stop them once they get their hands on the controls. Wealth must be eradicated at all costs.0 -
Some of the replies to OP seems a little patronising imo.
I think a Corbyn majority government (which I think is unlikely) would be a negative for UK based businesses (FTSE 250 principally) and of course there will be non-FTSE issues for many (good and bad).
Because the OPs is either very ill informed or patronising.
They are conflating Socialism and Communism - by extension, implying the Jeremy Corbyn is quasi-Communist.
I'm not a Labour or Corbyn fan either. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
We will change the criteria a company must meet to be listed on the London Stock Exchange so that any company that fails to contribute to tackling the climate and environmental emergency is delisted.
Plenty of UK companies are disappearing on a regular basis. Either taken private, acquired by private equity or overseas investors. The LSE has lost a third of it's entire listing in the past 15 years. Companies no longer need the markets to raise capital. Other sources are available.0 -

Why? are the rich getting so rich they can afford to buy companies outright? What does that leave us and our pension funds?0 -
