Natwest Rewards Account

Options
Hi,

Having searched and opted for the Natwest cashback account I applied for a Joint account through their website, of which we met all critera and said had been successful.

We then received texts to upload our ID, which we did and then the next morning have been advised we are not successful and are writing to us to confirm this.

Has anyone else experienced this? We have just brought a new home and looking for an account for our bills etc.

We have alright credit, and both earn a decent amount a month, more than needed for the minimum pay in.

Just a bit baffled as they haven't run credit checks on us either so seems a bit ridiculous.

Thanks

  • Natwest are removing the cashback on bills perk from this account in February anyways.

You're better off going for the Santander 123 Lite account which does still offer the cashback perks on bills.

It could be because you've just moved and addresses and electoral roll information hasn't been updated everywhere yet
  • Thanks, will try that.

If they are removing it, I don't understand why they are still advertising it.. seems a bit misleading to me and I wouldn't have known haven't I checked the forum.

Hi where did you hear about the cashback being removed?
I am NOT a mortgage & insurance adviser - or anything to do with finance, that was put on by the new system I dont know why?!
  • What a shame I use this for all my monthly bills and use their credit card.

    :(

    Yes a lot less!

I opened the Reward account earlier this year. It took a while.

I then applied for the Reward Credit card. I never actually received a rejection confirmation but it seems likely they didn't take things forward (despite online application appearing to go through) because at the time I didn't have a mobile phone number to give them. (Could do so now but really can't be bothered.)
  • I was persuaded to change my existing NatWest current account to a 'Rewards' account over 2 years ago - cost £2 per month, reward 2% of household bills of certain types paid by direct debit (Council Tax, water, gas, electricity, mobile, landline TV package and broadband). I already had most of those as DDs on my NatWest account - so I signed up, it was a good scheme, and good rewards over the 2 years.
I never used the 'rewards' at selected retailers - too complicated.

Now, from 1 Feb, you still pay £2/month but rewards are limited to a max of £5/month, and only £4 if you don't use mobile banking. The £4 is for 2 direct debits of at least £2/mth.

Well. one can see why they have ditched the old scheme - too generous! The new scheme is pathetic but I'll probably stick with it.

Why, if it's pathetic? You could try Santander 123 instead.

...or do both, which is what I'm doing.

Non-cashback paying DDs stay with Natwest. The rest move to Santander.
