So small overview...... I got a new bank account a basic Santander one and I was due a tax rebate.... a pretty big I've never done one before so this is years of accumulation. The payment went in so I payed a few Bill's then theh froze the account. I've provided evidence that this is all from hmrc fully above board but it's still frozen. I cannot get any straight answers from anyone at the bank but it seems like they arent doing anything anytime soon. Any experience or advice please? Is there a time they can take with these things or could it take months?

You need to wait for them to complete their investigations.0

If the payment was from HMRC they would not need you to produce evidence of that fact' the payment would have come directly from them or, if paid by cheque, the cheque would have been from HMRC.
This is a pretty big tax rebate …..
Could you briefly explain the circumstances?0 -
So I have been self employed for years and I have just never done myself assesment. The fines kept coming so I eventually got an accountant to do this on my behalf they took 2000 straight back and the sum was the end figure. It went through the checking process they do then it was issued. When I cleared they allowed me to spend some then closed it I have been in with the paper work and supplied my tax return evidence I've spoken to hmrc also who have stated they cannot help when I'm on the phone they will not give me any timescale or any information I've asked what other information they may need and they dont require anything else. Its clearly stated HMRC payment. I've been reading it could take months0

I'm aware I need to wait but with no timescale and now a frozen account that I cannot access it's pretty worrying0

You have never submitted a self assessment tax return since 2000, kept paying (random?) amounts to HMRC, kept getting fined …. ?
Why did you open a new basic bank account to receive these funds? What was wrong with your existing bank account? Why open a basic bank account?0 -
My current account was overdrawn! The new account wasnt opened for the purpose of the rebate. And the fine was 2000 not the date back of the rebate.0

New account (basic at that) gets a large HMRC refund. Bills paid and then frozen.
I can see why.
Sadly no one here can give any timescales. That is in Santanders hands.
I guess it's lucky for you that you have another account to use while it is frozen. Even if it overdrawn.
As a aside. Has the bank that's overdrawn wanted repayment of the o/d?Life in the slow lane0 -
Why not pay the check into the overdrawn account to clear the (likely expensive) overdraft?0
-
I'm in an agreement with overdrawn bank I just regret opening with Santander there customer service is appauling... it was a bacs payment just seems odd they have all evidence required and still cant seem to get a straight answer. No maximum timescale either. Oh well looks like it's a waiting game i was just curious to see if anyone else had something similar occur. Thanks for the help.0

Why has the amount now been removed?
Anyway is I was in your situation and coming into £11ks worth of money I’d certainly look to clear down my existing debts with it, arrangement or not.0
