Got my £175 today, think it has been a week since the switch was complete. Easy enough :D

So now what I don't understand still ... can I cancel my standing orders and do I need to pay in the £1750/month? I am using the HSBC savings account, so I need an HSBC account but I believe I don't need the advance one so it can be 'downgraded' to a 'normal' account if I decide not to pay in.
I didn't see anything in the T&C about them taking money back, so don't see why I can't remove SO and not pay in.

I'd be interested in this. I have no intention of paying in £1750 if I don't have to, and I don't want the account at all. I was either thinking of closing it down (or switching as thats easier)

If you don't fund the Advance account they say they may/will* downgrade it. So may as well do nothing yet.

    * Check your Advance T&Cs as I can't remember which applies.

I read through the terms and conditions again and can't see anything about them taking the money back. So think I'll just leave the account alone (I still need it so can pay into regular saver, but shouldn't matter if its not the 'advanced' one.

    Hi All,

Just wanted to say that I applied for an HSBC Advance account on 7th January, got a text saying thanks for requesting to switch straight away, but then heard nothing else at all until 1st February at which point I got another text.

I chased them to ask what was going on. They confirmed I'd been accepted and then I suddenly starting getting emails saying welcome and just got the card in the post today.

It took such a long time, and I heard nothing at all, that I'd assumed they'd not accepted me. But turns out they are just incredibly slow...
  • Thanks for the update, wallofbeans. I applied on the 22nd of January, I got a text message on the 24th to confirm the application, then silence. I called them a couple of times and apparently they are dealing with a backlog of applications and there is nothing we can do but wait for a decision.
