Is there any advantage to maintaining the HSBC account as "Advance" once you've received the switching bonus? Looking at their website, all it seems to offer is "money-saving rewards", none of which look particularly appealing. You can have the regular saver and British Cycling Fan membership with the basic account, too.

You get some "preferential" rates on some of their savings accounts compared to a normal bank account

Sorry to gatecrash your thread but just wanted to ask I applied for the account and it said "we"ll be in contact soon" so they didnt confirm i was accepted yet. Does anyone know how long a wait that would normally be? Or in what form they will contact me please? I will give them a call next week to check status if i dont hear anything. Thanks for anyone who might reply.

In the context of HSBC Advance, I suspect if the only account you could get was a basic account then it would be very unlikely that you'd get approved for an Advance account when HSBC seem to be quite picky.

In the same position of waiting to hear back from them.

I applied on a hope and a prayer tbh, I have a very reduced income right now which I was completely honest about in the application, but I have more than enough to be able to transfer the money in to satisfy everything else.
