Martin's appearance on This Morning - and dreaded smart meters!

I think he did mention a requirement to have a smart meter actually.
If you don't want one, then carry on paying more.0 -
There are some consumers who cannot have a smart meter. I am one, so are my neighbours and 95% of my rural village. Reception of all signal types is poor to non-existent and SM's just would not work here.
Before the usual suspects tell me that is a load of Bravo Sierra, my information comes from my energy supplier, after I applied for a SM.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

I have just checked it and i can see it with the tariff info.0 -

Yes, I already stated that of course I use a laptop and mobile phone and I'm aware of the similarities between those and smart meters, but I have no wish to give up my phone and laptop so I make do and accept that these could be having an effect on my tinnitus.
However, why should I have to have a smart meter to get the cheaper deals when I'm not sure if the additional radio frequencies will make it worse!
The B Gas engineer who came out to service my boiler a couple of weeks ago was talking about the link between tinnitus and smart meters and the consultant at ENT backed it up.
I'd forgotten that people on here could be so vicious.
You don't "have" to have a smart meter though, do you? Just like you don't "have" to have a laptop, or a juice maker, or anything else other than food and water.
You're being a drama llama for the sake of being a drama llama. Stop it and either get a smart meter, or don't. Whinging on these forums won't get you anywhere.0 -

martin said if it isn't practable to have one installed then you would be exempt from the requirement0 -

When Martin appeared on This Morning yesterday to say about either switching suppliers now or staying with the same supplier to get a better deal, I thought this sounded great so I've just been checking where he hinted at and lo and behold, I found that I could save a fair bit by switching/staying with my current supplier, Scottish Power.
What he didn't say was just how many suppliers in the table of results including the better deal with S Power now want you to have a smart meter installed. My current tariff with S Power doesn't require me to have a smart meter, yet getting a better deal with them does.
I really don't want a smart meter and it's not to do with rumours that fly around regarding them, it's to do with my health. I have tinnitus, quite badly recently, and having researched I've found that there could be a link between tinnitus and smart meters.
I realise this might be completely false and I could have a smart meter fitted and not notice any worsening of symptoms, but if I do find it gets even worse I'm stuck with a smart meter!
I also realise that I'm using equipment such as laptop, mobile phone etc which could aggravate my condition but that is my choice. Yet a smart meter would be forced on me and I wouldn't have an easy time trying to get it removed - if at all.
Bulb don't force a smart meter on you. They might not be the cheapest but it would stop you having a smart meter as part of the package.Someone please tell me what money is0 -

To answer OP point.
Smart Meters offer the supplier a more efficient meter reading service and they are passing this benefit through to the customer in the form of cheaper tariffs compared to non smart meter.
Also suppliers are required to improve smart meter uptake by the government, hence they are incentivising the customer to make that switch.0 -
< they are passing this benefit through to the customer in the form of cheaper tariffs compared to non smart meter.>
Thats not really true as they have not reduced prices .
Most only read meters every two years at best .0 -

Yes, I went back later and it had reappeared.Money, money, money, must be funny, in the rich man's World!0 -
So why did you start this thread? It reads as if you just wanted a bit of a rant about smart meters, but I'm not sure what that has to do with Martin's appearance on TV.
You said you were "confused and a bit annoyed" but didn't explain why. What was it about Martin's TV appearance that confused you?0
