Just tried it again. The sync wasn’t as bad as I thought. Just a weird echo effect.

As above, have you disconnected the TV's own sound (not just muted it)?

Thanks, will look into it a bit more, on another forum a user has been in contact with the vendors of the products and it seems no real assistance provided to date :(

I think you are paying far too much attention to people posting on the internet about faulty equipment or with poor understanding of their installation. Most modern sound bars are connected via HDMI and do not suffer dropouts or synchronisation issues.

If these issues were widespread, it would be more widely known and sales of sound bars would plummet instead of slowly increasing year-on-year.

How? I did have a look in the options and couldn't see anything to state soundbar connected?

In any case, after testing it, and the fact that the TV sound is quite good on its own. I decided I would like TV sound most of the time. When I wanted to use the sound bar, I would power it on, and press mute on the TV. Seams to work well for me.

Otherwise I may have it loud all the time giving me a head ache :lmao: lmao

Yes I know what lip sync is, however if the TV sound and SB sound aren't in sync, it does give an indication that one of them isn't perfectly matched with the picture!
I put it down to being driven from an optical connection.

But you're just making it far more noticeable. There will be a slight coding/decoding delay, that's what these delay settings are for. Having the sound up in both, just draws attention to it. Lipsync is only a problem while it's noticeable.

Optical is optical, it should work regardless of brand. You may get better interoperability with remote controls etc if you stick with the same brand though.

I don't know what equipment you have, or intend to buy, kev2009, but if you want to list it we might be able to help better. It's not just about the soundbar blocking the remote!
How are you going to connect the ATV to the TV?
Are you going to maintain 4K?
Are you going to maintain 5.1 sound?
    Are you sure?!!

    Hi @ almillar,

I currently have a Panasonic 49" TX49-FX650B TV and i'm considering the LG LGSL8YG soundbar at present. I plan to connect the TV and soundbar via HDMi ARC port. the Apple TV I will connect via HDMI to the TV (as is at present). I plan to maintain 4k for what small content I have in 4k, think just 2 moves). I have a old bluray player which is very occasionally used and again connects via HDMI BUT this isn't a show stopper as I think its been used maybe once in 2 years so seldom used.

I have no other speakers at present, just the TV sound speakers, I am planing to use use the soundbar for sound and not have rear speakers as I feel they would be too close to us and wont be good sitting right next to the rear speaker so I've ruled that out for now. If i try moving the furniture further forward to give some space between the sofa and the speakers at the back next to the wall, the room looks stupid as effectively the sofa & 2 chairs are in the middle of the room and makes walking in and out more of a issue as little space not to mention sitting much nearer the TV.

The \LG soundbar isn't as high as the original Sonos I was considering so fro the measurements I've looked up online, the TV has 6cm clearance from stand to bottom of TV which is perfect as the LG is 5.7cm tall so should not cause a issue with the TV remote so is looking promising.

    Let me know your thoughts.

    Thanks

    Kev

Good stuff. ARC has changed things a bit I guess, and I'm used to amps rather than soundbars, but you generally connect everything into the amp/soundbar via HDMI, then the amp/soundbar to the TV via HDMI. With ARC you can get the TV's sound back down into the soundbar.
The risk with going through the TV is that it might 'downmix' the sound. I'm a few years out of date but any TV I've seen will NOT pass through 5.1 sound, it'll downmix it to stereo. I just want to make you aware of that and check what will happen to your sound. Your soundbar does look like it will take advantage of a 5.1 input (3.1.2?!!) and it does pass through 4k pictures, but there's only 1 HDMI input. So you'll be relying on the TV to pass the sound through properly, or use the optical input on the soundbar...

Yes, that's how i figured it but I presumed that the TV would pass the appropriate sound as the soundbar supports it? I thought TV would pass the sound and soundbar would choose how to output if it wasn't in a format it could play, i.e downgrade it?

For example, i don't think my TV can do Atmos so i assumed it would pass the Atmos signal to the soundbar which would play it? maybe i'm wrong..

    Hi all,

Had a look today and the tv stand is only 935mm wide so unfortunately a lot smaller than i thought so most for the soundbars i looked at wont fit :(

So sadly looks like i'm back to soundbars with no ATMOS/DTS:X support so maybe the Sonos beam or Bose 500? Anyone have any experience or opinions on these?

The Sonos will come up half way into the bezel of the TV i have so unsure if will be a problem so may need to try and convince a shop to allow me to buy it, try it and bring back if problems OR i go for the Bose which is not as call - so will sit below the bottom of the TV.

    Thanks

    Kev
