Black box car insurance

I was having to park in about 3 different streets every night when coming home from work due to lack of parking space in my street.
Situation normal in cities, and absolutely zero to worry about. There was sometimes only one tiny little parking gap between two cars which I daren't even try and park in as I'm still apprehensive about parallel parking due to being a new driver.I honestly didn't think it would be an issue before I bought the car. I didn't hear anything from the insurance company about where I was parked in those 3 weeks but left much longer i think my insurance would be been invalidated and then I definitely wouldn't be able to drive, leaving me truly screwed.0 -
I did check with the company, it states it on their website and I was told when I first set up the policy.
You rang your insurers and asked if parking up to three streets away from your home would invalidate your insurance, and they said "yes, it would"?
I'm glad I'm not with your insurer - neither me nor any of my neighbours would be confident our insurance was valid.0 -
But you told your insurer you park on-road overnight?
Situation normal in cities, and absolutely zero to worry about.
Yes but it said in the terms and conditions you have to park on your street at least 4 nights a week otherwise they would cancel your insurance. Then I would have been screwed as it's very difficult to get insurance elsewhere when you have voided on your records .
Don't try, won't improve.
I was not risking a massive insurance claim when my excess charge was so high.
So this is entirely based on something that you've decided for yourself with zero outside evidence whatsoever...?0 -

Which insurer?I was not risking a massive insurance claim when my excess charge was so high.

<raises eyebrow>
Which insurer?
"A massive insurance claim"...? For - at worse - a very minor bumper-to-bumper parking nudge?

"Security purposes"...?
Well, we can't help you with a less paranoid interpretation of the Ts & Cs if you won't tell us who.0 -
Ts & Cs for telematics (black box) policies taken out since September:
https://www.mypolicy.co.uk/media/1283/telematics-private-car-tcs-v12.pdf
OK, firstly - you're over-reacting on the "MUST NOT DRIVE TOO MUCH IN THE DARK!"Your Telematics car insurance does not contain any specific restrictions concerning curfews unlike other telematics policies which typically place restrictions on where or when a vehicle can be driven. However, your Telematic Smart Box data will provide information of all journeys including those times when driving represents a higher risk, such as at weekends and late at night and this usage shall form part of your overall driving score. We therefore advise more caution at these times.
Any more detail than that is going to vary on who the insurer is - MyPolicy are a broker. but the telematics are the only way they'll know where the car's parked, so any restriction would be under that.0 -

Ah well, main thing is I sold the car before things got much worse. I'll just have to get a better paid job and somewhere with a parking space to live before I buy my next car. I did lose a few hundred £ but at least it was an experience and next time I'll be better prepared.0
