Black box car insurance
Is it true if you have a black box in your car for the insurance company to monitor what you're ever doing, and you park somewhere different at night to where you said in the applicstion, they can invalidate/cance!/void your insurance? Seems ridiculous and a bit of a Mickey take to me? It's one of the reasons I've just had to sell my 3 week old car.

Yes, the whole point of the black box is to monitor exactly what you're doing.
The odd night away wouldn't flag a problem, but if it was declared kept overnight in rural Cumbria and subsequently shown to be kept in London every night, the insurers would have every right to cancel the policy.
Even parking it on the next street when you've said it's parked on a drive could be reason enough to cancel.0 -
Depends... obviously you are allowed to go away for the weekend, and if you can't find a space right outside your house one evening you are allowed to park round the corner, so they cannot cancel the policy just because the car is not in exactly the same place every single night.
However if the car is rarely or never parked anywhere near the place that you told them you were going to keep it then of course they can cancel our void the policy. It's hardly ridiculous that lying on an insurance application will have consequences.0 -
My daughter's got a black box. She's hardly ever been at home over the last couple of years as her boyfriend has his own flat. She's never been questioned about this and her premium went down this year.0

When you say the black box location is one of the reasons you have had to sell your car after 3 weeks - what do you mean?
Have they definitely threatened to cancel your policy due to where you park or for other reasons?
If parking, then did you put down a different address to get cheaper premiums or is it now circumstances that you are unable to park in the original location.
Our black box car was often parked for 3 weeks at a time at a relatives address a mile away from my house when nobody was using it. I know from the SmartWheels app that the location of the car is pretty accurate down to a few metres.0 -

Maybe it's time she updated where her car is kept with the insurer then.
Otherwise cover may be voided.
And it's fraudulent.0 -
I was having to park in about 3 different streets every night when coming home from work due to lack of parking space in my street. There was sometimes only one tiny little parking gap between two cars which I daren't even try and park in as I'm still apprehensive about parallel parking due to being a new driver. I honestly didn't think it would be an issue before I bought the car. I didn't hear anything from the insurance company about where I was parked in those 3 weeks but left much longer i think my insurance would be been invalidated and then I definitely wouldn't be able to drive, leaving me truly screwed.
I learnt to drive and buy a car to make life easier for myself. How wrong I was.0 -

The word "over-reaction" comes to mind. You did this for 3 weeks and no comment from the insurance company. If you were worried you could have rung them to establish what the situation was!0 -

This is the thing to do. Any doubts at all, check with the company.
They get the final say. Not random strangers on a forum.0 -
I did check with the company, it states it on their website and I was told when I first set up the policy.0

OP why are you posting under two user names:

A 2007 Yaris is not a 3 week old car, you may have owned it for 3 week though.0
