I have a Nokia 5.1 Android and the pics I see when I open the photo app on my phone are to be found in Internal Shared Storage>DCIM>Camera through file explorer in Win10

Just make sure when using Google Photos that your pics and videos are backed up in their original size.

many thanks .. I've just tried that and found ..

Thumbnails folder .. 160 of my images, but each one only about 300 x 400 pixels. Why are these small The ful sized ones must be stored somewhere else.

    100Andro folder .. empty

camera folder .. only 15 images, each 4032 x 3024 .. I couldn't copy and paste these, says clipboard empty, but can open with Paint.net

    DSLR Camera folder .. empty
Are you using an SD card, if so the chances are most of your photos are being stored on it and won't be in the internal storage of your phone.

This really shouldn't be that difficult, if you're using android then you should use the Google Photos app to auto backup all your pics and videos, then as mentioned these can be viewed and downloaded any time via a browser on your PC.

When you plug your phone in, check if file explorer shows two new locations, one for the phone and one for the memory card in the phone. My walkman and android phone both exhibit this behaviour. Then use the file manager search function to look for *.jpg (star dot jpg) and search each of the drives visible. That will then reveal the location to you and you can sort them by size/date and click and drag them to your new location.

Have a look on You Tube for some instructional videos on using file manager if you are not experienced in it.
