Can I ask them to compensate for the lost day of work?

After having an armchair that I have bought from a well known large company for £550 it has developed a major fault with the metallic parts protruding the fabric.

The company said that for them to make any decisions regarding the guarantee claim they will need to do the inspection.

However this is an all day appointment.

As a result I will not be able to attend my workplace that day and being self employed this will potentially cost me money.

If it is established that the issue is due to manufacturing fault I am seeing the situation as below:

1. They have supplied me with the faulty item - their fault
2. The way of the inspection being arranged all day appointment which is their choice to do it that way - their fault

Because both of the above point are their fault, why would I have to suffer financial loss?

Can't you get somebody else (who isn't going to cost a full day of whatever your rates are) to deal with the armchair inspector on your behalf?

Why are you posting as two separate people?
  • There is no one I can ask to stay on the day and why should they?

    It was delivered in July

    Wait until the inspection .
If found you are correct then bill them .But you have to mitigate your losses .

    They will probably ignore .
  • Are you able to work from home?

This would mean I am not getting any new business leads as opposed to me being in the office.
Also there are two small kids at home who would not allow me to work properly.

So you can work at home, you just don't want to?

Already seeing the company minimising their costs on this one

So if there are two "small" kids at home surely there's someone there looking after them? That person will be there, having to be there all day might be a slight inconvenience but it's not the end of the world.

Sounds like you just want to charge a company money for something that's not even an issue.

The person being at home does not speaks reasonable English

I am not annoyed with them having to do the inspection. This is a reasonable request.

All day appointment in my opinion is not.

They probably have this all day appointment arrangement with their contractor as it is cheaper this way for them.

So they are (being at the fault here) saving money at my expense by not providing convenient appointment slots!
