Just switching to Scotish power, £155 cheaper than my current supply (exact kwh etc compared). Fixed for a year.
Also getting £30+ cashback from topcashback (on the topcashback plus account free trial).Socialist, anti bedroom tax campaigner and NHS worker.0 -
I applied to NPower after reading the MoneySavingExpert article and joining The Cheap Energy Club back in October 2013. Up until last week all I had received was an email asking to confirm my email and a letter received in November confirming a direct debit. Apart from that I did not receive any information, not even a Welcome Pack. I tried to phone several times but to no avail. I finally got through to their customer care last week and after 20 minutes waiting to speak to somebody they told me that they tried to take over the electricity and gas from the old provider but they could not as this was a commercial account. This is all a farce as my road is a residential road. They did not even try to get in touch with me. After a 45 minutes conversation it was concluded that they could offer me a different deal as the deal I originally went for was no longer available and guess what the amount I would have saved had been halved. I was not pleased by this and asked to cancel a contract at which point I was told that there was not contract.
I am really not happy about the way NPower has treated us. We have probably missed out on all the good deal now because of them.
Beware of NPower that is what I say!!:mad:0 -
It all sounds good at the time but whenever I have switched I have always had problems.
It was recommended by Uswitch that I switch from British Gas to EON. It was quoted that I would save £197 over the year. Firstly, my statement for both gas and electric with British Gas has suddenly shot up. This is after submitting meter readings on a regular basis and increasing payments when needed. Secondly, EON are now suggesting I up my new quoted payment from £111 p/m to £141 p/m. And thirdly, with my first EON payment due out at the end of the moth I am concerned I will be hit twice in the same month by both British Gas and EON. It's never straightforward.

I did cancel my DD after my last months payments. One account was in the black and the other slightly in the red. But the statements I'm seeing now contradict this.0

Ask Eon what the agreed hand-over readings were and compare those readings with those on your final bill. If the bill is correct then ask BG how they would like you to pay. If the bill is incorrect then use BG's complaints procedure, preferably in writing.Warning: In the kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

Mossfil is right. It has taken me 2 months to switch from Eon to MandS as recommended by this website. OK, the £30 turned up alright, but I have spent hours on the phone to each supplier, had a DD for >£850 taken out of my bank account just before Xmas - thankfully the bank got it back for me - been threatened with a Debt Collector by Eon and just today got them to agree change-over readings, nowhere near the readings I supplied to both suppliers back on 13th Oct. Never again! At least I'm now with a British company.0

Anyone know if you can switch while you are in debit account with the company? With first utility and my first year was up in November. Monthly DD based on usage went up from £60 a month DD for gas and elec to £130 from December and owe about £500ish.
Just about to do some comparisons to see if I can find a cheaper supplier..... assume I will have to pay off what I owe before they let me switch? Thanks0 -

Yes, I believe you can. Last time I switched, I owed on one fuel and they owed me on the other (despite so-called "dual fuel"). I was leaving nPower. It took them about four months to reimburse me what I was owed, even though it was more than what I owed them. However, it did not affect the switch in any way.
They do say; do not cancel the direct debit. My father in law somehow managed to cancel his when he switched, and it has caused them NOT to reimburse him what they owe him. He will end up trying to squeeze that money out them in writing, maybe have to be from a solicitor.0
