It is banned, just not enforced surprisingly. I would have thought supermarkets would clamp down on it on safety grounds alone.0

A lot of supermarkets have wipes by the trollies, you can wipe it before using it.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0

I imagine your food is in bags? In which case, putting them where a child's feet have been is no different to putting them on the ground, or in the boot of your car, or the floor of a bus. What effect do you imagine the dirt from the shoes is going to have on your (packaged) food?0

When you handle groceries that have been in a dirty trolley, the muck will get on your hands, onto worktops and in your cupboards.0 -

Soap and water?
That old fashioned remedy called hand washing
How many of you that are so concerned about children in trollies , remove their shoes on entering a home, theirs or anyone else?0 -
I object from a safety perspective, not a dirt perspective. And also a little laziness/pandering ...:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

I agree with the OP. (And I know others who do too.)
My car boot, the floors in my house and the insides of my fridge and cupboards are all cleaner than a kid's feet.
Let 'em walk.0 -

The handles of bags are usually at the top. Any dirt the bag picks up will be at the bottom. Unless there is some strange mechanism by which dirt travels from the bottom to the top, it is difficult to see how it gets onto your hands and then onto worktops etc.
If you drive to and from the shops, do you open your car door wearing disposable gloves? I regret to tell you that if not, you will be picking up far more dirt from that than from the bag handles.
Whilst I can see that kids (especially large-ish kids) standing in a trolley is a visible reminder about dirt, it's not the worst culprit, nor is dirt to be particularly feared, assuming you wash your hands fairly often.
Yes, the kids could/should probably walk, but having had three children I can see the temptation to stop any whinging, and perhaps make a tedious shopping trip more fun, by letting them ride. Though having said that, I always made them walk!0 -

Why are you talking about bags? Groceries go directly into the trolley around these parts, so the groceries themselves would pick up the dogturd residues and then onto your counters and shelves.
Yes it's a small risk but the point is, that cross contamination route shouldn't exist in the first place0
