It will take a week to put it together....0

I know OP's son has decided not to order, but for anyone else reading in future... I've been really impressed with their delivery service! (And I promise I don't work for Ikea).
Our issue was bedroom furniture - our last three houses have had fitted bedrooms so we don't own any wardrobes / chests of drawers / bedside tables. We can't afford to put fitted bedrooms in straight away (prob not for 5+ years) so are Ikea-ing it to start with.
Ordered last week, chose to have delivery this morning. Phoned after ordering to advise them that (1) the house was empty so we would need a phone call beforehand so we could get there and (2) the house is down a narrow lane and a standard delivery truck won't fit. Got a text yesterday confirming delivery this morning, then a phone call last night to say we'd be the first drop so it would be around 7.30am. Got phoned at 6.50am to say they were half an hour away. 83 items delivered - all correct and nothing missing, and they'd done our delivery in a van rather than a truck.
Delivery is a flat £39 and if you're ordering a single Billy bookcase it's a rip-off. If you're ordering an amount that would take three three-hour-round trips in your car due to its load limit, it's a bargain. :rotfl:0 -

Ikea delivery is fine.
You can also go to the store, pick the stock and get them to deliver. Not sure about how long you have to wait. You also have the option of getting a van or Gumtree delivery.0 -

I’ve found ordering your delivery in store gets you a much sooner delivery date than ordering it online, it depends how close you live to a store I suppose whether it’s worth it,0 -

I agree. Had an excellent delivery service from the Newcastle branch. And don't you just love Billy bookcases? Don't know what we did before Billy bookcases...:)0 -
Our new house has been built around my Billies. I asked the developer to move a doorway then a radiator so I could put my library in a handy nook. :rotfl:0

I did this and they delivered first thing in the morning and we had to sit around waiting for the chain to complete and did not get keys until 1pm. Best to either get a van and go to Ikea or have everything delivered for day 2.0

Ordered two corner sofas from ikea as was doing a hack and linking them together.
Each was in 6 LARGE boxes. So that's 12 boxes in total about the size each of a washing machine.
One of them had the wrong part, but not discovered until the entirety of the first one had been unwrapped. Cannot put them together as missing the key part and they dont exactly stack well when in pieces and dominating the room.
Different people at IKEA giving different messages. Was told have to reject the entire order and have an entire new one delivered. Which means having to pack it all back up again!?!
After arguging this, was told it would be ok just to swap the wrong part and give the rest of the delivery back, at the kerb.
Then this changed too and was told the right part will be delivered and the wrong part collected - by different couriers, but not at the same time or might not be in that order!
Delivery booked for Sunday.
It's raining.
First guy turns up and takes the faulty part.
Of course, sods law it's this way round.
Then delivery comes.
Entire new sofa turns up in another 6 boxes. Nope. Cannot just take the bit I want. Need to sign for all of it or none of it. Try to phone people but it's Sunday so no luck.
Also told by incredible rude "ikea partner" I am responsible for the condition of it so cannot leave it outside until collection. To which I told him he was welcome to attend and I'd insert tthe sofa upon his person.
Now 18 large boxes living on ground floor of the house, taking over the living room and half the kitchen.
Call the store. "come get your sofa"
Oh sorry, its' not done from here we need to book it in, it will be tomorrow at the earliest / other "technical" excuses.
Cut story short, it took two days before the rest of the delivery was collected.
IKEA apologised and gave a £100 voucher for the considerable hassle and misleading. We spent £1600 with them on the sofas.
We had also paid for delivery !!
Typically when I go to Ikea I will collect the goods there and then. Estate car ftw. It would have been my preference to collect the sofas from store. I only used their delivery because I had no choice in the matter. My sixth sense said there would be a problem.0 -
I have had a large wardrobe on order since August. They have now cancelled the newest delivery date. Given me a date in January. Currently arguing for a refund. Delivery costs are expensive for single items from Ikea so best to order a few things to combine the postage.
Used to praise them but not amused todayAn answer isn't spam just because you don't like it......0
