I cleaned the front of an expensive brushed aluminium amplifier with isopropyl alcohol when I was a teenager, and it ruined the surface, making it all cloudy0

Most commercial LCD cleaners contain isopropyl alcohol, read: http://www.dvhardware.net/article15339.html
(Personally I only ever use water to clean LCDs.)
I said you SHOULD NOT use alcohol based cleaners. Not LCD cleaners don't contain alcohol.Don't listen to the bad things about Vista its the best
Just because it's free don't mean it's good

Not quite sure why you are SHOUTING.
Yes, I know that's what you said, I did read it.... and I was pointing out that some cleaners contain alcohol, therefore by their very nature are alcohol based. However, there are many forms of alcohol, I assume you are getting mixed up with ethyl alcohol and isopropyl alcohol.
From several links, including the one posted earlier, I quote:
"Most experts suggest you can use a cleaning solution of 50% distilled water and 50% isopropyl (rubbing alcohol). You should use a soft cloth such as an old cotton T-shirt or handkerchief. Don't use paper towels, tissues, or ordinary dish cloths, as harsh cloths may damage the soft surface of an LCD screen."
I was reiterating that I personally, would only use water, if you'd read my post...0 -

True, and that would be the case if it hadn't been covered many times on many sites, a quick google brings up cleaning advice with isopropyl on lists of sites, and of course colleagues using cleaners with isopropyl alcohol which haven't damaged their screens, therefore it must be fine.0
