in Credit cards
Sorry if this thread is in the wrong place - I'm new around here.
I've had a browse around some similar threads but can't find one which exactly matches my situation.
So I went to use my credit card to make a contactless payment today (A payment less than £10 in a store I regularly use). There is plenty credit in the account and it was my first purchase of the day. My last usage was for a similar amount the night before in a different store - that was fine.
Anyway, I tried a couple times and it said not authorised?
I thought perhaps either the store or my bank may be having problems, but then my boyfriend used his card (same bank - contactless payment) and it went through just fine.
I'm a little lost as to what the problem could be - any ideas?
(I'm going to call the bank tomorrow when I have time to sit and chat to them, but it's playing on my mind so any ideas before I call them would be great!)

Could be one of a thousand reasons, so just wait until you speak to them.0

Did you then try putting the card into the card machine and entering the pin?0
-
could easily be that their machine wasn't working correctly.
I have found that sometimes contactless doesn't work - but if you insert card & enter pin it works fine.
So did you do as previous poster stated and entered card?
I would have thought your card holder would be open today?

Probably because you regularly use it in that store and haven't entered your pin for a while.
I've not had it for a while, but I went through a period where contactless was always being rejected.0 -
There's often a cap, you just have to use the pin instead. This isn't the same as the daily cap, it will allow you to use it a certain number of times and then you have to use your pin to confirm that it's you using your card.0

This happens from time to time with contactless transactions. When such a transaction fails always try it again chip/pin. This has happened to me several times in recent weeks but always goes through when I try a second time with chip/pin.
If this is playing on your mind go out now and try to use the card chip/pin and everything will be ok so you can relax and stop worrying.0 -
I think there are new rules in place for contactless as a result of PSD 2 and Strong Customer Authentication. It's something like a limit of 5 in a row or a total of €150 (or something like that) before the PIN has to be entered.0

Well how it appears depends a lot on the person at the other side of the terminal. It should tell them that pin needs to be entered. But many just see it did not go through and say "Oh it's declined"
Clearly a bit of a non event for the OP given that they are waiting till tomorrow to call bank, yet had enough time to post here,Life in the slow lane0 -
