Looking for advice on selling my wedding dress

I agree with others that it is almost certainly price - for £750 someone can buy a dress new (or an ex-display one from a wedding dress shop)

If you look on e-bay there are literally hundreds of dresses most of which are prices well under £200.

I would suggest searching against the specifc style, size and make of your dress to see what has sold recently, and use that as a bsasis for setting the price if you do still want to sell.

While I have never done it, I would think that a specialist site might be better than a more generic one - I am not sure that many people are going to be looking on sites like preloved or gumtreee for a wedding dress.

My dress was £1k new. Ended up selling it on eBay for about £125. People just won’t pay much for a second hand dress I found. I think most people fit into one of two brackets when buying a dress, either they’re happy to pay from the high hundreds plus, in which case they want a new dress or they want something cheap and are looking for £200 or below. My friend bought a 2k dress and the wedding had to be cancelled and by the time it was rebooked she’d got pregnant and needed a new dress. She struggled to get £200 and it was not even worn.

I'm a bride to be and must admit I didn't entertain the idea of a second hand wedding dress. I was never interested in a designer dress. For me, how it looks and fits was far more important than the name.


I paid £450 for my dress and that was an off the rail brand new dress originally costing £900. I was super happy with that.


Most brides want the idea of wearing a dress for the first time, not one that is someone else's special dress.


I don't think you'll get much at all for the dress. I can only suggest trying ebay and Facebook to sell.

I kept mine on top of the wardrobe (in a box and tissue ) and when my daughter was about 4 years old and in a concert as a fairy, I cut it up and made a gorgeous fairy dress for her with loads of net (tutu like) and a petal headress. Couldn't think of a better use for it. This was 46 years ago. 750 quid for a second hand dress?? You having a larf?

You could research/find a local "Dress Agency" where they sell 2nd hand/quality/labelled clothes and, once sold, you get half the money.

See what they value it at. People are more likely to buy it if they're in a shop and can see/touch it.

The value is probably nowhere near what you currently think though.

Your wedding dress can be the "something old" so you can save a lot of money and still be traditional.
