any recommendations for a supplier of reconditioned laptops (around the £200 price range)? Trustpilot gives mycheaplaptops good marks.
She wants to go down the cheap 32 GB eMMC sub £200 laptop route, but having had a poor experience with a cheap ASUS and problems with windows updates on such a small memory, i was thinking about trying reconditioned business laptops. I know i could pick up a lemon in either case, i just think an older better built model might be better than a cheap one with inferior components. (Full disclosure, i'm a tight wad 15 year old skoda driver).
Any ideas/comments appreciated.
Everywhere post #3 is not a bad deal, that cpu on it is quite a new one, so nippier than the old Intel V2, v3, v4 ones. Not as fast as the AMD Ryzen 5 mentioned above, but around 15-20% slower, which I doubt most people will notice.
Yes, avoid EMMC, but they are better than nothing.0 -
Does this look like a sensible choice?

Odd that you would ask, but not act on the advice you were given.
You had the opportunity for a modern laptop with a Full HD screen and still on it's original warranty, for a fair bit less.
Good deals don't hang around for long, so you need to be prepared to act when you ask.
The laptops to which you have linked are mediocre. Six years old and £100 more than the model that I recommended to you.
Little incentive to spend time seeking out deals if they will be ignored.
Of course not aimed at you alone. But anyone who asks for recommendations.
Some have a habit of asking, doing nothing, asking again months later, doing nothing...
For £300+, I'd be looking at newer and at least a Full HD screen,
if you are looking at ex business machines, here is an example from the same seller; https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DELL-LATITUDE-7490-i5-7300U-8GBRAM-2400MHZ-256SSD-FHD-FINGER-SCAN/133236720120
Though I'm not giving it a personal recommendation as there is no warranty. Only for use as a benchmark.
But it is relatively good value.
Same model on Amazon; https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dell-Latitude-SCREEN-Certified-Refurbished/dp/B07K7CWMFV
The other one I recommended, was not only under original warranty, but had the option to extend to a three year on-site warranty for not a lot. That way to cover a good part of the study period. Not having to send it off to get fixed if there was an issue.
A few things to consider when looking for a relative bargain.
A further example(if willing to bid); https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lenovo-ThinkPad-T470S-Intel-I5-6300u-8-GB-128gb-SSD-14-1-Full-HD/2237457327040 -
Not thought something like this from ebay, if you do not want to go the LibreOffice route...
"Office 2019 365 Pro Plus Lifetime License - Windows, Mac, Mobile | 5TB Cloud Storage
Authorized Reseller
Pro Version
100% Genuine"
for £2.89? Possibly the cheapest 5tb storage around too

O365 is a subscription based service, anyone promising "life time" licenses with no reoccurring fees is simply lying.0 -

This one has the markings of a scam all over it. I can't tell exactly how it works, nor do I have the time to try and investigate. From first glance reading the terms it looks like you are getting an account attached to a domain/company operated by the seller, you will likely receive a trial account/key that will work just long enough to leave positive review on e-bay, until it bombs. Then the seller will create a new account, rinse and repeat. Looking at several similar listings, there is hardly a seller with more than 10-15 feedbacks and they are all new accounts.

For £2.98, or even £3.00 I would try it. If it gives 1 month of life, it is still more cost efficient than £60 a year.
Here is on form Amazon, also with a Lifetime Licence for £39.99
https://www.amazon.co.uk/MicrosoftTM-Professional-Multilingual-Windows-License/dp/B07VR5GFZ1
Or the one user cd version for £29.99
https://www.amazon.co.uk/MICROSOFT-OFFICE-PROFESSIONAL-Digital-License/dp/B07JGLX5QL
Could they all be scams, and lying?

Processor and the display are a bit of a let down. Not sure that i would go for such a device.

On the up side, warranty extensions are cheap. Less than £20 to extend to three years RTD or less than £40 to three year on-site.
Part numbers 5WS0Q76896 & 5WS0Q76897 respectively or purchase on-line via https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/gb/en/warrantylookup / Digital River.0
