what are my options? Carphone warehouse nightmare

Hi all you lovely MSE peeps

As i am fully aware martin is the man, when it comes to all things money, i'm hoping for some help from you equally knowledgeable forum frequenting gurus :)
My story is long, and probably not that interesting to most, so i will give the condensed/clip-notes version
For many many reasons, most importantly my mental health, it's looking increasingly likely i will have to return imminently, to the republic of Ireland, where i'm originally from
I'm totally blind/severely sight impaired, came here to work, jobs didn't work out, and i even found myself homeless earlier this year
Stupidly, in sept just gone, i upgraded my phone with vodafone, but through carphone warehouse
When i needed to cancel a plan when back home, the network i was with at the time, had allowed me to switch down to the lowest plan, and pay that price, times however long was left in my contract
I am quite prepared/more than willing, to give cpw the phone back, as i will close all bank accounts etc, if indeed i do return home, and i certainly don't expect to keep a phone that i can't pay for, but cpw want the guts of 1000 pounds to cancel the contract, which they say is my only option  i just don't have that kind of money
Please, advice?
Thank you so much in advance :(

It's a contract. The contract says it's for a minimum period. It's not down to CPW that your circumstances changed. It's also nothing to do with CPW. Only the network can offer anything different since that's who the contract is with.

You could always sell the handset and put it towards the cost.

We can't see the contract terms from here, but it doesn't sound unreasonable or onerous terms, to be required to pay for the remainder of the contract term. If that comes up to £1000 then, CPW can ask for that amount.

I really don't understand how it can be a £1000, surely as a blind person you didn't get a flagship model.

You can't expect to be able to cancel a contract without penalty, just because you were able to so in the past (either due to contractual terms or sympathy from the other party).
