Do I have to go downstairs to collect my parcel?

Sorry if this is a stupid question. I was expecting a parcel delivered by Hermes, and I did hear a buzz and opened the front door of the building, but no one came up. Then another buzz and opened for that again, but still nobody showed up, then I checked the website and it says the driver had his attempt and no one's in or no safe place to leave the parcel. I feel quite confused, aren't parcels supposed to be delivered to your flat door? I think one of the problems was most of time I could only hear noise through the entry phone and couldn't hear any voices, so probably the driver had asked me to come downstairs but I just didn't hear that.

You could argue that, as the hallways are not generally accessible to the public, the entrance to the building is the front door.
It's a moot point though, as the answer to "Do I have to go downstairs to collect my parcel?" is clearly "Yes".0 -
Possibility that if you’ve a personal letterbox inside the entrance area that would be classed as the delivery point0

So, you are quite happy to open the front door of your building without ascertaining who is there? I hope the other tenants in your building are more security conscious than you are.0 -
Was it a heavy parcel0

I knew I was expecting a parcel in that time range, but you’ve raised a good point that I should be more aware of the security issues.0 -

No it’s not heavy.0 -
Honestly they probably didn't realise the door had been opened. Happens to me but I'm ground floor so stick my head out and tell them to buzz again.0

When I lived in a third floor flat - I would always go down and pick up my parcels. For me - one trip down and up the stairs took seconds - but to do that at every address I can imagine the couriers job would be a nightmare. If I could save them 20 seconds, and one less set of stairs, they were usually very, very grateful. Unless you have specific health reasons not to go up and down stairs - it might be a courtesy you could show your delivery drivers in going down - or even meeting them half way.0

The answer would seem to be, it depends how badly you want your parcel.
This is Hermes, after all. You're lucky they got the right building.
Anything more than that is a bonus. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Yes it should be delivered to your flat door, assuming that formed part of the address you provided when ordering. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0
