Accident claim, missing driver licence.

Hi All,

My wife died in a car accident couple of months back. Now I am in the process of making claim from the insurance company. The insurance company has wanted to have:
A copy of her driving licence.

Also, a licence check code.

The problem is that I don’t have a copy of her the driver license.

Does anyone have an idea how to deal with this issue please?

All best

DVLA should be able to assist but will probably request additional documentation to verify.

Horrible situation and seems like unnecessary hoops to jump through at such a difficult time for you. Hope its resolved quickly and easily for you.

Call the DVLA on 0300 790 6801, they should be able to tell you how to proceed to get the information you need.

I hope you get this sorted, hate it when people who have so much to do are made to jump through further hoops.

OP, I'm sorry for your loss and really hope that you are able to get this sorted without further hassle.
    It's not difficult!

I know you have probably looked, but being a woman I thought I might be able to help...... I used to keep my licence in the zip pocket of a bag.... Not my purse. I've since moved it to be alongside my passport.

Would she have needed a copy for anything else? Do you know the last time it would have been used?

Perhaps in a suitcase or with old travel documents. Do you have a tin you put all foreign money in, hubby used to keep his in there as it was only ever needed on holidays.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

Unfortunately not an unnecessary hoop as far as the insurance company are concerned. They will be trying to ascertain if there was any non disclosure when taking out the policy. Failure to declare points can effect the amount they will pay out and in some cases invalidate the policy as per this thread over on the motoring board.

  • Do you have a contact from the Police who dealt with the accident? I wonder if they can assist?

I understand why they need to to it, just obviously they aren't being very helpful in assisting the OP at this difficult time. Surely they should be helping him get the relevant documentation, rather than him having to post on an internet forum!

I don’t see how you draw that conclusion. They have asked for the info, but the OP has not said he has asked them what to do if he can’t find the licence, so we don’t know how helpful or not the insurance has been.
