That would be one way to get the file onto your phone.
As would emailing it to yourself from the computer, opening the email on the phone and saving the file from there0 -
With Android, you can select the USB mode to make the phone work like an 'external drive' and then it's just a simple copy and paste.0

Surely you must have a built in file explorer? I wouldn't download es file explorer. Its not the app it used to be and contained a lot of bloatware the last time I used it"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0

If you want to install a file manager this is a nice simple one
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.asus.filemanager&hl=en_GB
This is really good, a bit more complex but really really good if you will use the features.

If it's a 2nd gen Moto G, what Android version is it running? Marshmallow (6.x)?
You should be able to simply connect it to your PC and copy the file over that way. (The Android version will determine whether you need to "activate" the USB data connection ... if it's Marshmallow then you will need to do so via the Notifications area - swipe down from the top of the phone after connecting the USB lead to phone and PC and select the [probable] MTP option).0 -

And doubly this.

What is great for me is that you can make your mobile into an ftp server, and easily copy your data off. Yes there are other ftp software out there, but the free ones either do not like my sd card or are unstable. Tried a few other file managers, and it is the best I have used too0 -
I used ES Explorer in the past, but changed to FX File Explorer, which I much prefer -- no ads/tracking:

An FTP server sounds pretty handy, though -- so I'll definitely have a look at com.alphainventor.filemanager... :-)0 -
How do you find out what Android system a smartphone is on. What is Marshmallow. I have never heard of it. Once a phone is connected to a PC via a USB port what should come up on the screen.0

Settings > system > about phone. You will find the Android version number. That number represents a name ie 5.x lollipop 6.x marshmallow etc. The latest update is version 10 and afaik doesn't have a name
When connected to pc you should see a folder in file explorer with your phone's name"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0 -

Marshmallow is the version of Android, up until Version 10 they were all named after confectioneries. Marshmallow is Android 6, Nougat is version 7, Oreo (a sandwich cookie apparently) is version 8 and Pie was Android 9. Presumably they couldn't find a sweet name that began with a Q
When a phone is connected to the computer you should get a notification on the screen about what you want to do, by default most phones will default to "charge only", you should have an option to "transfer files", there's usually two options, the right one you need depends on the computer.
