  • Can they really expect people to pay (again) for old BBC shows?

This doesn't look to be a good monthly deal at all.

Doctor Who and Downton Abbey for £5.99 a month???

Streaming services appear to be becoming increasingly fragmented, which can only be a bad thing for the consumer in terms of choice, cost and variety...
  • Very competitive enviroment now with new streamers coming to market. Doubt many of us can or wont to pay more than a couple. I certainly wont and have netflix and amazon, and netflix by far is far superior. But its getting less appealing even using netflix what with major studios leaving netflix and doing there own and along with rumors of netflix may stop people sharing even though they openly encouraged it and packaged I am on it states up to 4 users

I do prefer older tv programs most of whats on is poor on tv now, but I resent having to pay on top of license fee which in my opinion is very poor value given the amount of rubbish is on.
  • Not a very large selection. Decent quality, but mostly old.

And subtitles seem to be unavailable on most stuff. They say they're adding them eventually, but I doubt I'll stick around to see if that's true.
No mention of audio description either.
Shouldn't be allowed to be so lax about accessibility.

Also they say that some controversial TV will never be on it* which is like whitewashing history in my opinion. You shouldn't make stuff like it now, but don't pretend you never did, that's just dishonest.

I did wonder about that, no Black & White minstrels then.

Not that I long to watch them but if it's only going to be repeats of shows deemed suitable then I'll pass
Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens

Maybe not as convenient as Netflix itself but this site seems to be up to date:-

  • I'm thinking about trying the Britbox service free for a month to see if it has anything I want to watch again.
Most of the stuff I've seen advertised isn't of any great appeal to me.
Off the top of my head, does anybody know if any of these are available to view?....
All episodes of Dads Army? (BBC)
All episodes of Rising Damp? (ITV)
Past episodes of Gogglebox? (Channel 4)
    BBC4 music documentaries?
Melvyn Braggs "Reel History of Britain"? (BBC)
All episodes of Michael Portillo's "Great British Railway Journeys"? (BBC)
    Thank you.

I don't think it's "pretending" the shows were never made by denying access to them today. Personally, I would find it very distasteful to see full repeats being offered of Jim'll Fix it or the Black & White Minstrels for example. Short clips are available on YouTube for the casually curious viewer.

Britbox is a collaboration between BBC and ITV, so CH4 programmes are limited, Try All4.
