Speeding fine help

Hi

I just got a NIP for going 45 in a 30. Which I would never do willingly so I reckon I thought the country road in question was a 50.
Anyway it says I could be fined 75-125% of weekly wage but I'm only on Statutory maternity pay right now. Will it be a % of SMP or my usual wage when working?

This is my first ever offence in 17 years of driving and a genuine mistake. I'm really annoyed that my baby's maternity money is being taken by a simple mistake. I don't know what we will do for money now. And I just ordered my babies special formula online...

That should be covered by fixed penalty of 3 points and £100 fine

One thing you can say for certain is that it wouldn't be a 50 unless there were regular repeaters.

No repeaters, then it'd be NSL or 30, depending on streetlights.

Have you looked at the location on streetview?

45 in a 30 is only just outside tea-and-biscuits territory, and well within fixed penalty, so £100/3pt.

Think back to the highway code and your driving lessons. Remember how your instructor explained to you that all the information you need to know what the limit is AT ALL TIMES is just outside your windscreen within a few seconds...?

Repeater signs - they tell you the limit.
    No repeaters, streetlights - 30.
No repeaters, no streetlights, 1 carriageway - 60.
No repeaters, no streetlights, 2 carriageways - 70.

    It's that simple. Always.

I didn't realise the fine was taken from a specific part of your domestic budget. Wouldn't it be better if they took the money from another part of your monthly budget, eg eating out, drinks down the pub, magazines, newspapers, Costa coffees, clothes, make up etc, in fact anything else you might be able to reduce or do without for a short while?

Were there street lights where you were caught speeding. Many people don't realise that streetlights but no speed limit signs is automatically a 30mph limit.

Always. Except on motorways. And 20mph zones.

Yes, yes, yes... All generalisations are overly simplified. Including that one... <grin>

Had a good hard look, but I can see nothing whatsoever in the OP's post about " sitting in the middle lane of the motorway " And nowhere can I find mention of not " Moving left unless overtaking "

Must come from a book you read titled 'Make Something Up':p

You think someone who is unable to stick to the speed limit doesn't also hog the middle lane?

It was just a bit of friendly advice.
  • Make sure you return the completed request for driver's details within the 28 days allowed. Failure to do so means you commit a more serious offence which means a court visit, six points, a hefty fine and insurance grief.

In the likely event you are offered a fixed penalty make sure you accept it in the time allowed. Make your payment and do not forget to submit your licence as the instructions will make clear. Many people forget to do so and they end up in court being sentenced at the sort of level you mentioned.
  • Hi it was a £100 fine and 3 points. The road was a 50 but it went down to a 30 and I was slowing down but the police can was right behind the 30 snapping anyone who d isn't slow down by the time they got to the sign. Now I understand it's my fault because I should have been going 30 by the time I got to the sign.

I'd like to thank those who helped out. But also point out that you shouldn't be so judgemental. I have been on sick pay all year due to having an ovary mass removed while pregnant then followed by maternity. I almost died twice. I haven't had the money for eating out of cafe or tea and cakes. Some of us are really struggling.

Also although it was my fault and I accept that, it was a genuine mistake. We all make mistakes. So a bit of emphasising would have been nice.

Lastly the police can wasn't there to catch trouble makers or people chasing their cars down there he was parked behind the 30 sign in a bush trying to make a quick buck which I feel is underhanded.

Anyway rant over with. I'm not returning to this thread again.

It was there to catch people breaking the law, don't speed and they don't make anything from you.

Hi it was a £100 fine and 3 points.
Just a bog-standard fixed penalty, then. As predicted.

    But isn't it strange how...
just got a NIP for going 45 in a 30. Which I would never do willingly so I reckon I thought the country road in question was a 50.
    ...became...

    ...so quickly?

Finally, and I know you said you're not going to be back to read it...
Also although it was my fault and I accept that, it was a genuine mistake. We all make mistakes. So a bit of emphasising would have been nice.
