Toto > EDF Grab

I was a Toto customer and had started to move away before they ceased trading.

Toto confirmed the loss and new supplier confirmed the transfer would proceed and I am due to go live with them in the next week.

Now over the weekend I got an email from EDF who appear to be trying to grab my account.

This seems to be contrary to the regulations and advice on Ofgem, Toto and MSE pages.

Has anyone been in this situation before, there is no way I want to be with EDF and I do not want to have to go through another month of transferring away from EDF.

  • EDF Energy have been chosen by Ofgem to become the new supplier of Toto Energy customers as per both of their websites.

    https://www.totoenergy.com/latest-news

This was through the 'Supplier of Last Resort' process.

The initial advice would have been not to switch and wait until a new supplier has been chosen by Ofgem, which has now been completed.

If the switch is in progress the switch to EDF should be blocked. EDF will have picked up a database and sent out mailers to all those on that list. There is of course the chance that they will switch you once you have moved, as happened with me after Eversmart went bust and Utilita took me from my new supplier, but the erroneous transfer process should put you back with your new chosen supplier.

A bit difficult to go back in time and not start the switch before the supplier announces they are going under !

I spent 20m on the phone with someone in Philippines which was as awful and pointless as such call centres are.

I then managed to get transferred to UK call centre, they were able to check something called the national database, they said they can't see anything on there that will prevent me transferring to my new supplier (which they could see).

They said they expect they will be my supplier for the limbo period between Toto ceasing to trade and the new date.

They did say sometimes customers do get pulled by error and I should monitor it.

I already have direct debit with the new company so I can only hope this goes through smoothly.

Quite why OFGEM need to introduce this third supplier is beyond me, there is apparently a national database.

So either Toto or EDF should take the 157,000 accounts, remove all the ones that are shown on the national database as being in process of moving and then become the SOLR for the remaining.

Instead we have probably thousands of customers being inconvenienced by this process of lazyness.

I am increasingly frustrated to say the least. I have heard nothing from TOTO or EDF nor from lookaftermybills.com since they notified me of TOTO going under. I now see MSE have highlighted some great fixed deals that I cannot take advantage of. Should I just sit and twiddle my thumbs?

My gas supply was switched tail end of September (I hope), and yet another request was put in to switch the electricity supply about a week before Toto went tits up. Last I heard, the switch was still going ahead. So I'm just going to wait to see what happens. Should this attempt to switch fail, I'll kick off the process again and follow it up with a stiff letter to EDF.

.... And just had an email from my new (electricity) supplier saying "sorry you are leaving". After the hassles I had trying to get away from Toto, I'm not best pleased with EDF.

New supplier has raised an objection, so hopefully it will put a stop to this switch.

    EDF want TOTO Energy Readings.
I do not have a smart meter anymore I found it unusable. I do however have two meters in my house and now EDF want the meter readings. They did try and tell me how to get them but to no avail.

Does anyone know how to get the current readings please? Something to do with the red/blue buttons. (How many of our older generation will struggle with this)???
