Need a cheap laptop for taking back and forward to Uni but would need to install AutoCAD - wondering if this would do the job. Clueless about tech !!

Others will no doubt chip in, but Windows S, as far as I understand will only work with “apps” from the Windows Store. The small screen and feeble processor look like the last choice for CAD work.
Do the course notes not recommend a suitable laptop? I would guess the min spec is at least an i5 processor and plenty of RAM with an SSD drive and a large HD screen (17”?)0 -
Power of laptop also depends what you are using AutoCAD for, if simple 2D plans, a smaller system might cope, complex, 3D drawings etc, then a more powerful laptop will be required.0

Thanks for replies, most cad work done on the powerful uni computers - this is just for smaller stuff.

Oh and she wants one small enough to carry back and forward

May not help you but my company use Autocad on the oldest of old Macs, all 2011 or thereabouts. I am too tight to upgrade and we don't have issues..0

Look for a better screen with Full HD resolution.
Example; https://www.blackmoreit.com/e74404300u-dell-latitude-e7440-laptop-core-i5-4300u-8gb-ram-256gb-ssd-13.3-windows-10-.html
You should be able to find better. But the above can be used as a benchmark.0 -

If you prefer to spend less and aren't bothered about a Full HD screen; https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HP-EliteBook-820-G1-Core-i5-4210U-8GB-RAM-240GB-SSD-12-Display-Windows-10/303330413711
Not sure how much that she would like to work on such a small, low resolution screen, with relatively poor viewing angles.0 -
