Change of Address where we are renting while renovating our own home (i.e. we still have access)

Hi there
We are currently doing a major refurbishment on our own home and have just moved into a rental property for six months or so while the work is done on our own home. The other half works two minutes up the road from our own home, so drops by pretty much every second day to collect the mail, etc.
Should I change my address for everything for the six to nine months that we are out of our home? I appreciate that I will need to inform my car insurer (particularly as my car is now being kept on the street as opposed to a private driveway) but, given that we still have access to our own property, do I really need to inform the banks, DVLA, update car log book, Inland Revenue, electoral role, etc.? I would appreciate any suggestions or guidance on this.
Many thanks

It may be safer to let them know of your temporary move, if only to avoid suspicions of fiddles. Certainly mortgage lender (who you've presumably told about the refurb as you contract requires..)

The thought police (e.g. Hunter loan fraud system & credit referencing agencies..) do track where people are and sell/share that info with interested parties.

Forget electoral role unless you are standing, but maybe do electoral roll: ;-) ;-)

    Welcome to MSE. :)

Your mail will be available to anyone who has access to your property during the refurbishment. Trades, couriers, nosy neighbour .... Doors and windows will be left open on site.

Consider a RM redirection or fitting a 'secure' mailbox (if such a thing exists, the standard apartment ones are anything but).

Read the small print on all insurance policies.

You'll certainly need to tell your car insurance of the change of where the car's kept. That apart, it's down to what's easiest for security and access.

It might be worth simply redirecting post from the house to your temporary accommodation.

...same as you'd do post-move anyway.

If it is just a question of where the mail is going - get Royal Mail to redirect it for the 6 months. If you think anyone else needs telling then construct a standard letter ("This is a courtesy letter informing you that due to refurbishment we have temporarily relocated to ... and this should be used as our correspondence address until further notice. etc etc") You will need to be more specific for things like insurance - don't forget that your contents insurance is not likely to cover you and, depending on specific circumstances, you might want to check you have cover for both your old house during a long absence and your temp property.

Come on people, it's not difficult: lose means to be unable to find, loose means not being fixed in place. So if you have a hole in your pocket you might lose your loose change.
