Used Car purchase

So when it arrived with you, all the paperwork said 12,800 miles but the car itself said 14,400.

How quickly did you notify the supplier of the discrepancy?

And - most importantly - do you want to return the car, or just get a few quid back? Remember, under DSR (if this qualifies), you have 14 days from purchase to return it for a refund, or you're accepting it in full.

    There's no CRA issues here.

I asked them to check after 5 days. They never got back to me. I checked the original paperwork and had to go back to them with that as evidence.

Unless you're selling it right now, wheres the reduction in value? In 3 years time the extra 1,000 miles on it will have a negligable difference in value.

Can you find exactly the same car with the lower miles on it, priced for £145 less?

And also, why didnt you pull them on it when you picked the car up?

Reduction in value is £145 on we buy any car. It's obvious more miles reduces that value?

Ive not checked anywhere else of a car with lower miles, my preference is they sort it out and cover the gap.

I didn't notice mileage difference until 5 days later so thats when I asked them to check it out.

It's really not hard to cover 1,500 miles in five days.

Frankly, I don't think you've got a leg to stand on here, since you didn't query it immediately on delivery.

difference of £145 with WBAC might be because it has an additional owner on the logbook (you). Its only £145 spread over the time you will own the car it will be negligible when you come to sell the car. WBAC would probably knock that amount off for some defect or other.

Unless you have documentary evidence that there was a discrepancy.

Sounds like the Ad and the handover document had the 12,800 but the car said 14,400.

Did you see the 14.4 on the day you bought the car or a few days later?
    Have you told the garage?

That's correct, I asked them to check after 5 days and the nver got back to me. I found the orginal paperowrk and went to it back to them on day 10 yesterday. So far they say mileage was correct at time of advert and can't offer any further discount.

They say the mileage was correct.
You say that it wasn't, but you didn't raise it for five days.
It doesn't qualify for DSR return, and you don't want to return it anyway.

Unless they're willing to come to some kind of goodwill ex-gratia agreement, how much time/effort/blood pressure are you wanting to put into chasing a semi-random figure of £145...?

your fault OP you should have checked at time of purchase. Stop wasting your time and ours.
  • If it was correct at time of advert then they have been using it as a pool car in the meantime would be my guess.

Proving that there was a discrepancy will be nigh on impossible to prove, how can you prove you didn’t put this miles on the car.

The price difference of £145 now will be hardly anything In 3 years time.

Chalk it up to experience - after all it wasn’t a massively expensive mistake

I had the same when I got my last car and it was because they had advertised the car at the same mileage that they had recorded when the previous owner went in to discuss trading in his car. Ie he went in on 55000 miles but by the time his new car was ready it was on 57000 miles. They advertised at 55000 when I got the car. Annoying but there are bigger things to worry about in this world.
