Co-op transfer to Octopus

As above really and you must receive your money in electronically (wages in/pension etc) no one actually pays hard cash in hand any more.
Some people probably choose to withdraw cash from inside a post office branch https://www.postoffice.co.uk/post-office-card-account0 -
Don`t you have a bank card op? I pay via direct debit but you could phone octopus to pay. I have been with them for 5 months and their customer service is the best. I had a direct debit reduction from this month, also a return of excess cash in my account. Paying via a card over the phone is tbh no different than paying with cash, unless of course you do not have a bank account. Post offices are closing all over, you should try and get organised to pay via card0

I read from one of your posts that you are with nationwide op. I am too, they issue cards, so what is the problem with paying electronically? We all need to move with the times and that included me. Keep a daily eye on your bank account with nationwide but as you say you have many years experience in the financial sector. Perhaps you are just being pedantic for the sake of it0

I don't know about Octopus, but most suppliers offer a discount for paying by DD.
They aim to keep overall costs/charges down by adopting a digital/online system, paying Octopus energy account via HSBC Branch probably costs them at most very little.
They also offer variable direct debits for those who want to pay for what they have actually used, card payments can be made to settle accounts as well.0 -
There is no paypoint locally (local bus company were going to switch to this for payments until they realised there was only one in the entire city) and yes locally we have a post office, a Lloyds and NatWest and a building society. Not all of us have easy access these days.
Just out of interest, which city has only one Paypoint location? Just so I can avoid it.0 -
Yes I will be lumping it. They do not provide payment slips with their paper bills. I will be moving away from Octopus. Their customer service has been terrible so far, promising one thing and then doing another.0

I would never set up a DD as this gives a company the right to alter payment amounts etc and are incredibly difficult to sort out when they go wrong. Have experience from this happening and took 4 months to sort ouit (Lloyds bank). Using cash is easier to budget from and for my father, who is elderly, the only way. My experience of Octopus so far is dire so as soon as switch is complete I will be moving away. We've had hassle with Co-op constantly messing up their bills in the year we have been with them so will probably go back to our original supplier with whom we had no problems over many, many years. Won't be getting a SMART meter either.0
