Metro Bank in branch cash withdrawal ?

Last week I went to my local branch of Metro Bank to withdraw some money from my account over the counter . I handed them a letter I had from Metro Bank with my account details on it and told them the amount of money that I wanted . They handed me the money and that was that and never asked me for any ID to prove that the account belonged to me . As I live at a shared address anther person could have got their hands on my account details and withdrawn cash from my account
My question is why did they not ask me for ID ?

Metro Bank uses photo identification. When they enter your details into their system it will show a picture of you on the screen to the adviser. They would have taken your photo when you opened an account.0

Yes, I've occasionally been a bit concerned about the ostensible lack of ID being asked for at Metro, but as above they take a photo of you at the time your first account is created. It's a good idea and I wish more banks did this - although alongside conventional ID processes, not instead of them.: )0

But would it have helped Gloria Hunniford?

After reading about Gloria Hunniford you have got to be ultra carefull
If I asked Metro Bank to add to my account to ask me for personal ID , passport etc when I want to do any transactions in branch would they do it
On another note when I opened my account with Metro Bank I was told by the advisor who opened the account for me that it was not safe to have all my money in an account where money could be withdrawn from a ATM because if somebody got their hands on my ATM card and knew my pin they could steal all my money in my account in one go
My question is with Metro Bank you can only withdraw I think £300 in one day so how could a fraudster steal all your money in one go even if they had your ATM card and PIN ?0 -

ATM usage near midnight?
High value Chip & Pin transaction?
I've not seen any evidence that Metro are anymore insecure than any other high street bank. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Nice bit of cross selling by rep. That is a easy way to get you to open a savings account at the same time.:T
But in many ways they are right. Some people don't realise they have lost their cards for a while.
£300 a day and a good shopping trip will empty many accounts.:eek:Life in the slow lane0 -
