Well done and thanks for letting us know.

Please will you now help us by complaining to the BPA and DVLA that the scammers unlawfully obtained your data, and the cancellation would seem to confirm it.

Also complain to your MP about this unregulated scam.

You now have six years to make your own court claim for a DPA/GDPR breach against VCS. The going rate if you win seems to be about £500, and I believe will initially cost you £25.

Did you ever send an SAR requesting All Four images of your car and other information they hold about you? If you did and they didn't reply or provide the information, then you should complain to the ICO.

I plan on doing some of this.
Already spoke with ICO last week - will get back to them , got only 2 pics.
VCS are IPC member - will complain.
I will try and learn more about the DPA/GDPR breach side of this.
I originally emailed 2 stores I always visit on the site Barnardo charity and jack fulton, who did not reply.
Barnardo's told me the letting agents, who in turn told me the landowners agents. I ended up bouncing about 15 email/replies to a director at Savills. I reckon he saved the day but I don't think he knows what scammers vcs are and I guess they gave in to him , not me.

I will be posting how I also think the advice to complain to land owner is very good.
