Iphone quandary

Dear all

I hope you're all well and keeping warm today :T

Atm I have an iphone 6S and it works fine. I am, however, noticing that it slows down a bit and I've read that the Apple software updates might be stopped for the iphone 6S in the new year.

What would your advice be about a change?

I like using iPhone as my daughter has one and its nice to use 'Find My Friend' if I get worried about her :)

Would you think an iphone 8 plus or an 11?

Any thoughts?

Many thanks

K

Slows down usually due to the junk the user puts on .

yes i have a thought, ditch apple. i did years ago after having overpriced handsets that could not have the memory expanded, that every time it had an iOS update the battery life drained quicker. i'm on my 4th android handset and would never go back to apple's restrictive ways.
using a Moto G7 Power - proper 2 day battery (with heavy use), expandable memory and a price tag of around £160 atm.
Best phone i've had and my last one was a Samsung S7. This Moto is better.

Or Apple deliberately slowing old models down to encourage people to update to Apple's latest 'last year's technology @ next year's prices' iPhone.
  • I don't have much on my phone at all...so that's not slowing it down. I have thought about returning to android and I expect there's some way of 'Finding friends' which will allow linkage between iphone and android. I do like a pretty phone....I love rose gold :)

and thats exactly why you are a perfect apple customer :)

Simply buy a much cheaper Android and put a fancy protector cover on it

Ebay has a big selection of covers for very little money

The slowdown you experience would be mostly because newer versions of the app you use are released with newer devices in mind. My son still uses his iPhone 6 and my wife was perfectly happy with her 6s until she drowned it 3 months ago.

If you are still happy with the performance - keep using the 6s. The fact that next years's iOS 14 will likely drop 6s from the supported devices is no real concern, the lack of further security updates is not that big of a deal. For comparison the average Android mobile gets about 2 years of updates, yet millions of people are using them. If it's a new feature in iOS14 that you will want, best leave the purchase for next September, when the release of the next gen will drop the price of the older models.

If you want a new iPhone regardless and don't want to for out too much cash for 11, insetad of 7 I would recommend to wait for spring 2020 when the new iPhone SE is rumoured to launch with the same A13 CPU as 11, but in the older cheaper shell of iPhone 6/7/8 with TouchID, instead of FaceID. The rumoured price is $400, which should translate to about £400-450
  • Thats so interesting...thank you very much.
