Skoda Octavia front tyre wear
Comments
-
I keep a regular, weekly check on tyre pressures and wear, and the fronts on my Octavia need changing. They are Dunlop SP Blue Response and they have only done 15K miles. I know they do a lot of work on the front, but that doesn't seem to be very much mileage at all. The Avon ZV7 which were on previously did 17K.
The wear is pretty even as well.
Having been a user of said tyre (dunlop (or the good year equivelent which is much the same)).
Better braking and wet responce OR last longer. Choose one.
Plus your differnece is negligabe, a few emergency stops would account for that.0 -
Buy some Chinese ditchfinders; they are made of plastic instead of rubber and last forever.0

What on earth do you drive?
Back then just a mere Vectra B 2.2 SRI 68 mile a day of which 58 on A and motorway.
Even had Goodyear F1 Assy1 almost bald on rear at 6k thought would be half worn but Assy 2 lasted more than double. As to fronts usually Michelin Pilots gone by 6k- 8k same as Toyo T1R.
Problems solved by changing all bushes front and rear to purple Powerflex + 4 wheel setup inc cambers, mileage at least doubled Front 20k+, Rear still going £28k paid for itself.
Golf much the same 18k fronts GY F1 Assy2 with aftermarket harder bushes which limits actual wheel movement alignment whn cornering, accelerating and stopping.
As for the chinese ditchfinders theyre false economy £66 fitted each last 3k if lucky but thats not the worst theres no grip stopping or accelerating = dangerous at walking pace in wet. Presentable 275 x 35 x 18 tyres started at £178 each shopping around non run flat.0 -
I've had ditchfinders and they've never worn out on the back of a FWD car; about 60K miles and not much sign of wear! I've scrapped the car now still with them on.0

I’d get about 22k out of front tyres on a VRS with a fair bit of spirited driving. I found the best tyres for the Octavia for me was Goodyear efficient grip performance. Reasonably grippy, very quiet and got about 2 or 3 more mpg out of them when compared to others such as continental.
Would never go for cheap tyres, it just takes the fun out of driving as you have no confidence in their performance.0
