Voided Insurance
Hi, wondering if someone could help me here.
(Apologies, if it’s the wrong forum).
One week ago, my insurance got voided I had only paid my first payment, so I had no Direct Debit set up yet. They told me my cover was valid until the 30/10/19, which is tomorrow, but I’ve just checked my bank and they’ve taken a payment out. Silly me, never went on to my portal to take my details off, but just thought they wouldn’t be charging me.
What I’m asking is, what can I do? Phone the bank? Phone the insurance company tell them to refund or?

You cover cannot be voided and valid up to a certain date. They have either voided the entire cover back to inception/renewal (meaning cover has never been in force) or they gave you 7 days notice they are cancelling.
Which was it?
Regardless, next time you take out insurance be sure to declare you have had a precious cancelled policy!!0 -
They were cancelling my policy in 7 day’s... Still didn’t answer my question.0
-
So they cancelled your policy, and gave you seven days notice.
This wasn't because of lack of payment, but for some other reason.
You haven't organised new cover yet.
However, they've "taken a payment" (but without a DD) being set up.
The payment processing quite probably started before the cancellation, so it's a simple overlap thing, and you should get that money back. How did they take it? Continuous card authority?
Can we ask why the policy was cancelled in the first place? Depending on that reason, it's very likely that you've got a substantial ding that you're going to need to declare to insurers from now on, and which is going to make them very wary of covering you.0 -

It must’ve been set-up.

I gathered they would’ve taken the payment through Direct Debit.

Sure. Policy holder was different name from name on the vehicle logbook.0 -

It must have been set up, then.
But you've got an easy route to get it back - just request the bank return it under the DD guarantee. Can we ask why the policy was cancelled in the first place? Do you mean they found out that the main driver wasn't - is this a fronting case?0 -
So it was taken via DD?
It must have been set up, then.

That's not grounds to void a policy. Many, many cars - probably most on the road - are insured by different policyholders to the registered keeper.

It is when you lie and state you're the RK and you're clearly not.
Policies get voided when they wouldn't have taken on the risk at all if the truth had been told. Hence my suspicion about fronting.0 -

No, two drivers of the car. I’ve better credit so finance was cheaper, so I had to be the registered keeper.0 -
So if your down as the Registered Keeper and you are the policyholder of the insurance and you signed for the credit then what is the issue. Most of the financed cars on the road are owned by the finance company.
Who is the policyholder? You
Who is the Registered Keeper ? You
Who signed the credit agreement? You
Who owns the car ? Finance company0 -

Is that what's happened?0
