Catalogue account

Hi! So the other day after many years of having a catalogue I thought that I would just bite the bullet and apply. To my surprise JD Williams accepted me with a £125 limit which isn’t extremely High, but am so grateful that they have accepted me after my rocky history with very and little woods. Basically a long story short I was unable to make the payments as I was financially struggling and the very lady phoned me saying that “people like you make me sick as you are happy to take the credit but don’t ever pay it back” and due to her rudeness I said “yeah I am, now you’re never gonna get a penny out of me” I was actually very upset by this as that is already embarrassing enough not being able to pay nevermind being belittled by someone about it. But anyway fast forwarding to 2019 now I have my JD Williams account will this be affected by my old very account, which does get paid via a debt collection agency. Also If I pay the account off over the minimum payment or in full will they increase my credit limit as I would love to get my son a MacBook for his studying at college as he is using one from 2008! Thanks in advance

Your post is all over the place.
Presumably it is Very you defaulted with, not JD Williams? Depending on when you defaulted on your Very account it probably will be affecting your JD Williams one (in terms of credit limit) and likely will until it drops off your credit file.
I wouldn't be expecting a credit limit increase to the level that you can buy a MacBook any time soon, and given the interest rate on JD Williams accounts that's probably a good thing.0 -
“people like you make me sick as you are happy to take the credit but don’t ever pay it back”
Sorry but I don't believe a VERY representative said that.0 -

J D Williams and Very are not part of the same group of companies.
J D Williams will only know about debts that appear on your credit files. For them, that information won't include company names.
If your Very account was defaulted more than six years ago it won't appear on your credit files now and J D Williams won't know anything about it.
J D Williams' prices tend to be higher than elsewhere. A £125 limit is peanuts.
To persuade them to increase your limit you'll probably have to buy a few hundred pounds of overpriced tat and make sizeable repayments.
Is it wise for someone who's on a DMP to buy a computer costing more than £1,500 on credit?0 -
Does your son NEED a £1500 laptop, or is it just a WANT?
Bear in mind that a shiny new £1500 Macbook will be a target for thieves and he could lose it very fast, and such a thing would also make him look like a rich university student and therefore a target for muggings and such like.
Far better - for your pocket and his safety - to use the 2008 one if it's good enough for the course he will be doing.
How will you manage to repay the £1500 - and vast amounts of interest - if something happens and your income is drastically reduced?0 -
Just to make it clear, it is very that I have defaulted with, and also, yes the very representative did say that which is why I then turned around and downright refused to pay them, as being unable to pay and then being belittled like that is so rude. I think she did say before how much are you going to pay, to which I replied at the moment nothing I have nothing to my name so I can’t pay with buttons as she was rude from the start. And yes I did complain. And I’m not asking you to believe, but it honestly did happen. But yes now my financial status has improved and I can afford to pay off these commitments. I did use about £122 of the credit which some say NOT to do but as soon as that statement comes through I will pay it off in full, which they will hopefully come to see after months I can afford to pay them back and not just use the credit. And to be fair, I do appreciate the comments about the interest, but I am aware of the interest and if I pay it in full I am fine, I am also on a new customer don’t pay interest until March 2020, which is good. And also when I am unable to get a credit card sometimes a catalogue is an only option to some, except more expensive alternatives such as brighthouse. And I’ve checked today and it looks like I don’t have much more to pay off for that old very catalogue!0

How is a £125 limit going to but you a £1500 MacBook
And again, do you NEED a £1500 MacBook?
What does that do for you that a £300 laptop cannot do?0 -
Thanks for the replies, just to clarify as well he has said to me that he can pay half towards it upfront, so that makes it a lot less straight away. also if he had one I would be adding it to the insurance, however I wouldn’t be too worried as he has always looked after his things which I have bought him. And to be honest like you would expect with an 11 year old computer it’s unbearably slow. And also, it would make it a lot easier for him to transfer his documents and things over to the new one. And I have been told by him the hard drive is failing. And to be honest I don’t think my financial status will get worse, if anything better as I hope to get a promotion. And after all Isn’t that the risk you take with any commitment when you apply for it? No one can guarantee that your financial status will stay the same. And that goes to everybody not just me. Thanks guys and I hope I haven’t caused any offence0

Oh and also, in general when I have bought cheaper laptops, they tend to break quicker, in my own experience. The only one that has survived is the 11 year old MacBook, lol. But I am open to some more options if anyone has had a cheaper priced fast computer with a decent amount of storage. That’s all he needs really.0

That's not very long though, is it? And if you can afford to pay it off in March before you start accruing interest (and you may be charged any interest that would have been due if it hadn't been interest free if you don't pay it off by then) why not just wait? It's not that far away.
I don't think you'll end up with a £1500 limit with JD Williams before then anyway.0 -
Yeah, I do totally agree with you there it’s extremely unlikely I’m going to have it increased to £1300 before then. But I am happy to pay interest to be honest as it is better than a lot of the others such as very (39.9%) Nearly 40% that is terrible! and freeman’s (which isn’t much better to be honest at like 35%) and jdwilliams is (24.9%) which is better than the others. But that’s what happens when you get things on credit. You pay In full or pay interest (they have to make their money somehow).0
