Barclays Mobile Banking App

Have any other Barclays Mobile Banking app users had problems updating the app in the last few days ?
My phone has Android 6.0.1 software installed.
I was on BMB app v 1.96 but from last Friday as it loaded it told me I should update it. The app wasn't even showing up on installed apps in the Google Play store so no luck there. A link from Barclays online website gave only a choice to uninstall or open the app plus in red underneath those options "This app is no longer compatible with your device. Contact the developers for more info."
I contacted Barclays via email and the reply stated that the latest update required a phone to be running on a minimum of Android 5 software .
The Digital help team in India told me to uninstall the app then go to the Google Play store and reinstall it from scratch. The app wasn't listed at all. So I had no app. I get transferred to the UK call centre after thanking the lady for leaving me with no app. I go round in circles and give up thinking a new phone would be necessary as that is what was advised.
P.S. I had a brainwave and sideloaded the updated app from another source.
It is BMB app v 2.5 and works fine.
Today updated to v 2.6 and that works fine too.

I would have thought it's a bit risky to sideload a banking app. Does it show in Play store now you have done that?30+ years working in banking0

Lots of problems with recent updates based on wave of 1 star reviews on Play Store. However sourcing a sensitive app such as banking from anywhere but the official store is very risky. I wouldn't trust it even from a generally reliable source with checksum match, if it goes wrong the bank would be right to blame you.0

I'll let you know how safe it is. No less safe than other apps sideloaded from reputable apk websites. Rarely more than £100 left in as a float so calculated risk. A decent new phone to get the app from the Play store is way more than that.
And no it doesn't show up in the Play store now because it has been deemed incompatible with my phone for whatever reason.
My phone is Android 6.0.1 updated in March 2019 and the app is stated to be good for Android 5 and above.
Other than changing banks to one with an app compatible with my phone not sure of any better ideas. In the terms and conditions it states that not updating the app when advised to do so makes any losses down to the customer anyway. So I am in no worse a position than if I'd kept the old compatible version of the app on my phone.Never trust a financial institution.

Reading the small print in the Terms and Conditions I am no more at risk than if I'd kept and used the older compatible version of the app. I'll just make sure not much is ever left in the account.
If you don't update the app when advised to do so any losses are down to you.
Sideloading from a reputable apk website is no more risky than from the Play store. There have been many dodgy apps available from the Play store.Never trust a financial institution.

Not sure what small print or terms you're reading, it says clearly "You’ll need to download the app to your phone or tablet. Search for ‘Barclays’ or 'Barclaycard' in the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. Don’t download it from anywhere else".
The risk of a compromised banking app is more than just the funds in your account.
Good luck0 -

However further on other terms and conditions clearly state that you must update when advised to. The minimum Android spec is also given as 4.4 or higher. In the very latest T&Cs that are in the latest update the minimum spec is now Android 5 so depends where you look.
My phone is running Android 6.0.1 and the latest app update v 2.6 (obtained from a very reputable apk website) runs perfectly on it. I was told to update as the old app loaded each time but the Play store update route was denied to me. The Digital help team in India left me with no app at all and no way of reinstalling it via the Play store. They insisted my only option was to upgrade my phone.
Barclays need to get their act together if they want customers to convert to and consistently be happy and confident with digital banking. I want it to work and be safe.Never trust a financial institution.

instead of using the normal faulty version I use the Mod Apk function version at the shared Gamehottrend.com address when I no longer encounter the same error.

I have been using the Barclays app since it was first introduced. It updates just fine on both google and iOS, never had any problems.I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.0

If not, how does this help the OP?0 -
If you are running android v6 and the app requirements are v5 or above then you need to persist with barclays app support as clearly there appears to be a problem.
I assume you are running a 'real' v6 and not a custom rom or anything...0
