    It's Scotland. While buyers might have informal discussions about the price, the process isn't kicked off properly until their solicitor submits an offer.

    That was my understanding as well, a lot of solicitors on the sellers side won't even accept a noted interest in Scotland without it coming from a solicitor! (not that its a requirement to have a solicitor note an interest but its just the way a lot of firms work)

    Regardless of who is submitting the offer, I would still advise the OP to contact a solicitor prior to moving on the property so that they have a full idea of costs involved in buying a house as well as the process and timelines.
