Help with fridge in top floor flat please

Hi

I have a few questions please?
I got a second hand fridge of a friends mum when she had to suddenly go into a care home. It was new at the time a couple of years ago.
Its a hoover model and, you can still get spare parts on the hoover site, but there are no spare gaskets for the fridge.
I just noticed the freezer and fridge gasket has failed all around, I did the paper test and the paper came out easily all round the gasket.

I'm not sure why it's suddenly failed given it's age, but I need to buy a new one.
Does anyone know who delivers fridges to top floor flats without lifts?
Thank you

  • It may depend on how high the top floor is, but AO.com deliver up stairs.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.

    It's third storey.
I'll check AO.com site out, thanks.
Any idea why seal suddenly failed all the way around in both fridge and freezer sections, given that its not old?
    Thanks

Did someone clean it with harsh chemicals?

Might be worth you giving the exact model number here in case anyone can find a replacement seal set.

    Hi
Here's my exact model link https://service.hoover.co.uk/advice-centre/fridges-freezers/hsc574w/

My friends mum is an old lady so I don't think she would have cleaned it with harsh chemicals.
I thought about using other spares sites, but I cannot be sure if they are genuine spares.
I also thought of giving hoover a ring as they have a helpline.
I checked AO.com and they said delivering up steps is at driver's discretion and depending on weather.
    Thanks

Why do they have to be 'genuine' spare parts so long as they fit? Bound to be cheaper than a new unit. Easier to get delivered too!

That sounds like steps outside, not stairs to a top floor flat.

How do you know its suddenly failed, it might have always been like this.
I did the paper test and the paper came out easily all round the gasket.
Define "easily". On my fridge the paper comes out easily but the gasket is not leaking. If there is no air gap its fine. Take some paper to an electrical shop and test the new fridges, are they any different to yours?

    Hi and thanks
My fridge and freezer door failed the test on the video, I put a ten pound note in and it came out easily all the way around, no resistance whatsoever.
Thanks for the idea about taking paper to an electrical shop, I cannot as I am housebound.
It also ices up on the inside of the fridge compartment every couple of days and blocks the drainage hole, and is waterlogged.
I'm wondering if I need a new fridge.
My stairs are inside, so I will phone AO.com and check with them, their site sounds helpful with lots of options.
    Thanks

It's possible, that the hinges can be adjusted to move the doors closer to the fridge

Icing up suggests the thermostat has failed and the motor is running constantly. Does it switch itself on/off?

Turn the control dial right down to 1 (or low): do you hear a 'click' and does the motor switch off?

Turn the control dial right up to10 (or high): do you hear a 'click' and does the motor switch on again?

humming starts and stops intermittently but I thought that was normal (whhen it reached right temp) so I took a risk in eating yoghurts and quorn, which may have reached room temp.
As the door seals failed and im fed up of unblocking the drain hole from ice and emptying water out of it, im in the process of ordering myslelf a new one from ao.com as they say they can probably deliver upstairs and take away old one, just on hold now, waiting for sales person to take my order.
Thanks everyone, your help much appreciated.
