  • If you have enough money to volunteer, rather than working, I highly recommend here.  My family and I worked there Christmas 2017.  Lek Chailert is a marvellous woman, and you will hopefully meet her - she does travel the world as an elephant advocate.

My 23 year old daughter travelled on her own last year to Cambodia, learnt to dive and got her PADI. She then dived/dove? every day to pick plastic off the coral nursery, they collected bag fulls every day.  Sadly she didn't see a sea horse.

You have, I'm afraid, hit on exactly the reason why early home ownership is a mistake for a lot of people. It can stop you from pursuing economic and social opportunities.
This is just untrue. OP can sell their property and do what they want. They would lose some money to the fees but they would most likely still be better off compared to having been paying rent for this time.

Plus in some European countries you will find it very difficult to get a decent job unless you speak the local language.
It is an exceptionally British thing to even say this. Why would you not just learn the local language like any other migrant would?

Only a year old, and probably more relevant than ever.

Easier said than done when the economy gets tricky, that is the point, a renter just tells their landlord they are moving and then moves. Many a homeowner has come unstuck thinking their house is definitely going to sell just when they want it to.
