Ccleaner does not search on actual image - just image name and file size
I am not sure what you you are doing but it does for me - I have just tried it again.
If you select Content only and deselect all other options it selects the content irrespective of the file name. The duplicate files can have the same name or different names - it doesn't matter as you are searching content not names. In other words if one image is identical to another it will identify them a being the same.0 -
Found it on oldversion.com
Currently scanning
Thanks
I had a problem with my desktop and eventually applied the reset option.
For some reason it deleted Picasa but no other programmes I'm yet aware of.
Tried to find somewhere to download Picasa but failed completely but now I have installed it again through oldversion.com.
I had Picasa on my laptop but couldn't transfer it to my desktop, dunno why.
So all working again thanks to you. It's your money. Except if it's the governments.0 -
sorry to hijack - I've run Ccleaner duplicate finder in the past to clean up my disk and release space, and it finds loads of duplicate files.
Trouble is I've always been too wary to delete either of the duplicates a) usually not knowing what the file is or does, and b) concerned I might delete the 'wrong' one if they are in different folders and other programmes might no longer find them.
Am I right to just leave well alone....?0 -

Yes.
It’s OK to delete some duplicate files but the trouble is knowing which ones.
Data files such as Documents or Pictures are fine as long as you back-up beforehand.
However Windows is such a “dog’s dinner” in that what appear to be duplicates can reside in different locations each serving a different part of the system. Deleting either could at best corrupt an application or at worst break your operating system.
If the reason for seeking out and deleting duplicates is to recover hard drive space there are other/safer ways.0 -

Simple script to generate hashes of every file (e.g. php is free and has hashing functions), put the name and hash into a database (e.g. mysql is free) and then select the duplicate hash values and list the filenames.
I expect you could knock that together in 15 minutes.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -

The script will hash the image file contents? I know PHP has some decent imaging functions but it's been a while since I looked at this.
I suspect it'll take a wee bit longer than 15 minutes to write, especially if said person is unfamiliar with PHP and MySQL.0 -
I've tried a few and my favourite is Auslogic duplicate file finder.
It is free, not feature limited and can compare specific directories, groups of directories and entire subfolder trees. It performs a quick size/attribute check and then it fully CRC compares any matches so identical files with different filenames are also identified.
It then presents you with a list of identical files and their directories so you can pick which file (or files) you want to retain, or you can have the software simply select one of each for you.
It works on all files, so includes all image and video types.
I was able to identify and delete over 20,000 files using this program and saved myself about 60GB of drive space in the process!• The rich buy assets.
• The poor only have expenses.
• The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.
