Just to make sure that there hasn't been a misunderstanding...
- Is your question something to do with "New for Old Cover" versus "Indemnity Cover"?
i.e. With indemnity cover, wear and tear is taken into account.
So with "indemnity cover" you might get a payout of £6k, but it would cost you £10k to buy new replacements?- Or is your question something to do with "Averaging"?
i.e. If you tell your insurer that the current value of your contents is £10k, but the replacement cost is actually £16.7k. They will only pay out 60% of a claim. (e.g. £6k on a £10k claim)
On looking at the landlord's insurance T/C it says full details of the policy are on request which I will have to apply for next week from underwriters.
The premium is reasonable and it is paid in with rent.
I made a small claim last year for about fifty pounds for loss of food in the freezer, but there was no excess for that small amount.
The landlord had the key policy online and underwriters seem to cover most household items.
I was interested in the lost key clause and what it said about the landlord's cover.
I have ascertained the landlord does not hold a master key to some of the residents' flat doors which are composite door with a multi-locking mechanism on it, but it seems cannot be opened from outside without a key, I have pressed the landlord on this, it was like trying to get blood from a stone, as would not confirm either way. I think my flat door will have to be broken for me to back into my flat if I lost my key? I do not want to pay for the landlord damaged for their door from my insurance to have that replaced as it would be the landlord's fault.
I keep my key and fob on the same key ring and I don't want to left outside in cold or inside the block common area waiting for someone to open or break the door for me if I lost my key.
I will know more next week when I get full details of the policy? Thanks for the help.:T0 -

Sorry. If you lost your key and the door was damaged attempting to get back in. It would be the landlords fault? and you would not pay for your negligence
I do not think you will last long a tenant.:(The world is not ruined by the wickedness of the wicked, but by the weakness of the good. Napoleon0 -

How could it be my negligence? I am trying to prevent that from happening, that is why I got insurance?
Well, I must be doing something right, I been with the same landlord for 20 years?
Are you a landlord by any chance?0
