Home Contents Insurances

Options
I am thinking of changing my home contents insurance and been searching for one that charges the least excess on a claim. Any help would be appreciated.

Why do you want the one that charges the least for their excess? You should be looking for the one that charges the MOST for their excess because this makes the insurance cheaper. You are extremely unlikely to claim on your contents insurance, so it is much better for you financially to have lower insurance premiums than the difference in the excess.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

I got 10K insurance for contents and if I got to make a claim I will get 6K for replacing old for new payment, a loss of 4k due to excess.
Especially if landlord items are involved

Fairly unusual to see a £4000 Excess on Household Insurance. Are you in a high-risk flood area?

Should the landlord not be covering their own contents?

No, but in London drains not done with all building works drains bursting it will soon be a high-risk area.

I expect the OP is talking about tenant's liability cover - for accidental damage to the landlord's fixtures, fittings and contents - which is often part of the tenant's contents insurance.

e.g. Drop a hot iron onto the carpet, drop something heavy on a sink and crack it, spill a bottle of wine on the landlord's sofa, etc

    Edit to add...

    Except having read this...

... I'm less sure what it is you want cover against.

I would though so, but after looking at a clause in insurance policy provided by the landlord it says replacement of external locks and lost keys and contents of a freezer. Also, there is a cover for personal liability and cover for your landlord fixtures and fittings which you may be responsible for under terms of the tenancy agreement?
In a block of flats were residents have a fob to enter the block and key to used to get inside flat both are kept on the same keyring. Not sure as yet which eternal doors insurance is referring to door into the block or into flat:(

Just to make sure that there hasn't been a misunderstanding...
    • Is your question something to do with "New for Old Cover" versus "Indemnity Cover"?

i.e. With indemnity cover, wear and tear is taken into account.

So with "indemnity cover" you might get a payout of £6k, but it would cost you £10k to buy new replacements?

    • Or is your question something to do with "Averaging"?

i.e. If you tell your insurer that the current value of your contents is £10k, but the replacement cost is actually £16.7k. They will only pay out 60% of a claim. (e.g. £6k on a £10k claim)
